ANybody any ideas as to cheap ways to ‘renovate’ my NTV’s suspension? Its gonna be ages before I can afford a proper bike again and I repeatedly reach, and pass, the suspension’s limit…
Bloody hell… long time since I’ve seen an NTV
I remember the shock was woefully soft from new - trying to think of summat that would fit - is it a rising-rate arrangement ?
Even softer after 133000 miles!
I don’t know what sort of shock it is, but I saw one that fits on ebay for 175 quid; bit expensive to be honest. Not much point unless I can sort the front as well…although I think that would be quite easy. Just wondering if there’s and cheaper ways to do it.
Here’s the ebay item:
So I don’t know; looking at this, do you think anything else might help?
If, say, the shock off an old CBR fits then I could go to a scrapyard and get one for a lot less than this…
Alternatively, how much do you think it costs to rebuild a shock? Although maybe mine’s beyond repair…
Enquired about rebuilding rear shocks when my cat’s lost all its rebound, was advised against it, just got a fairly decent second hand one off ebay and all was good.
The front should be rebuildable with some new springs and a change of oil, so replace the back and rebuild the front? Gonna be a couple hundred notes to sort both.
Thats what I hoped; just need to sort out a replacement for the back…does anybody know what I should look for? Don’t want to spend £200 on just the shock, and obviously there are no actual NTV shocks going on ebay…will shocks from any other bikes fit?
You may have to bite the bullet on this one, there are no easy solutions and s/hand shockers can be ‘shockers’, leaving you out of pocket and no further forward.
Would recommend Hagon at £255 delivered. The bike’s handling will be transformed.
The front might just need an oil change. In my experience, after 10K miles the fork oil comes out looking like chocolate mousse. Could try increasing the fork oil weight to 15W which is a fix for the Hornet forks that are too soft and non adjustable. Otherwise Hagon do progressive springs for £65 including oil and delivery.
PS I don’t work for/own Hagon, they are just good guys with good products.
+1 on Hagon. Best value for money suspension. Rear shocks aren’t bad for the money (better than most stock suspension) and for the front just some new springs and a oil change will work wonders - turned my wallowing XT into a brilliant tool around Cadwell.
