Suspension Explained with BN Race Science 16th & 17th march

Morning All,

Following on from our very successful suspension BBQ back in 2011, we’ve decided to try something a little different this time around.

Having spoken with B about this, he has suggested that he does maybe 4 full set-up’s (fee to be confirmed, but it will be reduced from his standard £60 charge) and then for a small donation of your choosing (which will go to LAA), you will then be shown all the things to look out for in terms of setting your own suspension up.

We’ll have a bike there that will have odd adjustments done to its suspension, and then B will show you how to spot these, what to do to correct them and also discuss how these changes effect the bike.

B will also discuss the importance of tyre pressures, how things you think are coming from the front suspension can often be traced back to the rear shock and so on.

We will also have a static bike up on a work bench, so that you can really get a good look at how the rear shock and linkage works on bikes, as well as getting a much closer look at the bottom of the front forks, and aspects of your brakes that you should be checking.

If you’d like to test your bike afterwards, one of us can take you off on a ride around the beautiful roads of Surrey, which can also include the very well known Pirbright bends.

Numbers will be strictly limited to 4 set-up’s and up to 10 people for the suspension talk.

PJ and myself will do a free of charge BBQ (but feel free to bring some food along) and it will all take place at our house in Windlesham (j3 of the M3, so only about 20 minutes from Twickenham.

Dates to be confirmed, but probably looking at late March early April. And if there’s a good take up on this, we could run one every 4/6 weeks throughout the summer.

So, any interest?

Rich

I’ll create a list within this post to help with organising things.

If people just post what they’re interested in so I can get an idea of numbers, then we can sort out a single event, or a couple of them depending on numbers.

If you want to just come along for something to do, a BBQ and a ride out, then just post that below too and we’ll add you to the list.

Can count me in mate

Sounds awesome. Would like the set up to if there is space.

e2a: Would like to bring a +1

Im up for that Rich , would like B to have a go at the 1198 and see if it can be improved.

I’m definately in. great idea, thanks Rich and PJ.

I’ll happily take a set up if one is availiable, my suspension has me flumoxed.

I fancy a setup too. It’s on my todo list for this year. Plus my bike is really clean as I never ride it.

Would love to come for the suspension talk.

Original post edited.

Well I need a suspension set up… sounds great.

Well, it would be nice to know how to do it…

If is possible count me in please.

Someone say BBQ?! I’m in!
Possible set up if I can afford it

In for the ‘How To’ / BBQ / ride for the first event as i’ve entered this a bit late for the setup, but definately the setup for the 2nd one (looks like there will be a few) to rectify the adjustments i make after the talk!!

Wow! Great to see all the interest. Thanks Richard/PJ for putting this together.

Look forward to giving everyone confidence inspiring bikes that go into the corner, round the corner and out of the corner with ease!

Crikey, I have so much to learn. My suspension test is does the bike bottom out going over bumps (which the ER6-F does but I think that’s because I am carrying 2 up weight all by myself).

I think I’ll stay with the basic maint course at OMC and maybe one day I will understand what a suspension setup is and why it is important.

Count me in! Brian has already done me a setup but I’d be happy to come along and observe, help out as well if and where required…

@Simon. I think there is very limited adjustment available on the ER6 but there is a preload adjuster on the rear that is very easy to adjust. This will help reduce the ‘bottoming out’

@Conrad. Be good to see you! There probably will be moments when help is needed.

@Sean. That’s how I learnt… Keep experimenting. Keep notes!

Fab job B

This could be a good chance to get the camera out too!

Awaiting dates

Suspension talk +1

Thanks to all who have replied so far.

Having spoken to B about the suspension set up, he’s offered a very generous discount for this, so the price will be £50 (£60 is cheap for what he does, so this is a bargain!).

Should be a good range of bikes on the day and we’ll have the following bikes there to have a nose at too;

GSXR1000K3
ZXR400 race bike
SV650 race bike
WR250F enduro
and of course, a very shiny Ducati Panigale

Hope there’s bike parking… Just so Conrad don’t get another penalty for parking on the pavement!:D:laugh:

ha ha, I heard about Conrad’s ticket.

No chance of a ticket where I live, and there will be plenty of parking, so nothing to worry about there.
