Surround sound

Bought a new tv a couple of weeks ago Samsung 37 inch LCD.Picture is great but the sound is average so I thought I’d try a surround sound systemLooking through fleabay came across a Bush 5.1 with DVD 5 speakers and a sub.Brand new £40 collected yeaterday.I have wired it all up as it says in the manual and on 5.1 you can only hear music and no speaking ?Tried a few different dvd’s to see if they are 5.1 on the box and they all are but still only music no talking. The only time you get the talking is when you change the settings on the dvd player to stereo and not 5.1 surround. Also the main reason I got it was because of the poor sound on the tv,am I only going to be able to use the surround when a dvd is playing ? The dvd player is connected via scart lead to the tv direct could it be something to do with the sky box? should the scart go to the sky box/There is already a scart from the sky to tv.

I’m confused and yes I know Bush isn’t all that and shouldnt have got it from fleabay but thought I’d give it a go.

Any help appreciated.

Happy Christmas

Speech comes from the center speaker when it is in 5.1 mode, so check that the center speaker is connected correctly?

How is it all connected up? I am assuming that:

DVD 5.1 System [Scart Cable] TV

And that all the speakers are connected to the DVD player? As long as the player is a full on 5.1 decoder for Dolby Digital it shouldn’t be a problem.

What does the manual spec say? What model is it?
