I had some dude almost sideswipe me. not checking his blind spot or indicating. i was doing 40mph at the time and it could been bad for me. I pulled up next to him to shout abuse and he blanked me!! Bloody horse blinkers and all. So I very quickly and very “technically” removed his rhs mirror:D… Well it’s not like he was using it anyway:P
If you make a mistake then at least apologise and move on.
Ah, someone sensible… I’d echo this, it’s so much easier and sensible (ooh, sensible). I’ve done the angry thing and I know which I prefer and which one makes more sense.
It can be much more satisfying sometimes to ride defensively, step back and be the bigger person if necessary - give a wave of apology or something if it’s your fault or 50/50 (not in this case of course!). Although granted, sometimes it’s really difficult especially with some of the $hit standard of some drivers out there.
I’ve only been riding in London say 3-4 months and I dont even bother giving the “youre a cu.nt” sign anymore due to the fact I’d do it every 20 minutes and I can’t be doing with the hassle.
Violence is always the last option but some people think they can be extra rude sitting in there locked cage and its always nice to bring them back to reality.
When I was 18, my temper was a little short and a Nova driver almost killed me, literally, I was so offended my boot went through his drivers window into his head which wasa pretty cool and word spread about it…
I tried exactly the same thing on a new BMW about 6 months later, yet that window was much thicker and I bounced off falling on my arse, twisting my ankle, word spread even quicker with that:D
What annoys me most is people do not think what they are actually saying.
I think the best story I know of, as I was a witness but didn’t take part. When I was 17 and out for a ride with my dads mates, a guy tried to nudge a biker in his car whilst trying to overtake…I was much slower and everyone buggered off into the distance…coming up to a roundabout 2 minutes later I saw my group of mates kicking in the panels of the offending car and one punching the crap out of the driver…Brutal but street justice was royally served.
You talking about Criminal Damage? Wouldn’t you have a lawful excuse?
The right to protect property belonging to you or another, ie protecting your own motorcycle by forcing the driver of the van to pull over to inspect the damage or correct the problem.
I have always thought that would be a justification for damaging a wing mirror of a driver that was attempting to ram you.
Not that I recommend damaging property, only going to anger someone like that even more and then he will likely put himself and other road users in imminent danger just to get at you…just an intellectual exercise on whether you would have a lawful excuse of protection of property.
It is both interesting, and sad, to note that withn the CDA there doesn’t appear to be a protection of person, only a protection of property, for a “lawful excuse” it does of course accept any normal defence in law, but still, it is simply adding two words to the section, “or person”.
+1If someone was to try and take a swing for you and you pushed them over then that would be self defence as you would be pushing them away to prevent them from hitting you. If you are on your bike and someone tries to change lane on you or is aggressive towards you, how is kicking their car or smashing their wing mirror going to stop them, only gonna make things worse in my eyes!!
Well if someone is changing lanes into you, and you lash out with your foot on their door, from their perspective, they will hear a large bang on their side which may make them stop changing lanes…
How is that not protecting your property?
As I said, I don’t recommend it, as I don’t recommend confronting people, unlike BusaBaz I don’t find the first answer to everything is physical violence, perhaps that is why I didn’t become a copper.
I’ve almost been taken out by some fat bastard undertaking me on the left side at a junction when I was just about to turn left…he actually grazed my left knee as I was about to put my foot down. He was pissed that I was doing 30mph (speed limit), 5 minutes later we bumped heads again 'cause he thought I was following him.
I was on a cbr125, to cut it short if you’re underpowered and might get cornered remember you can’t get away as quick as you think and your bike doesn’t have reverse!!
