Sunday 29th March 2015 TOWiE here comes Summer wet roads special

The clocks go forward and British Summer Time kicks off in style with light rain followed by light showers over most of Essex for most of the day. The Met Office do promise a glimpse of Sunshine sometime before 4 pm.

Anyone interested in a good opportunity to test their waterproofs before Summer kicks in proper?

Plan A

Leaving High Beech Tea Hut at 11.30 am for a 50+ mile bimble to Tiptree via the best that Essex has to offer by way of wet roads.

Usual rules apply. No knobbers, boy racers, girl racers, white line overtakers or late brakers. Ninjas, gingers, vegetarians, innuendo and everyone else welcome. Ride safely, at your own pace and enjoy the day.

If you’re unfamiliar with the corner man system check out Andy’s most excellent Ride out Guide below

Getting my suspension done Sat, so if l am allowed l’m up for it with my new waterproofs

Light rain followed by light showers over most of Essex for most of the day has developed into heavy rain for breakfast, a cloudy lunch and more heavy rain by tea time. The previously mentioned sunny intervals may make an appearance just before sunset.

Don’t forget the seal skins.

Are the aforementioned “wet roads” just expected to be wet with rain, or are you doing fords ?

I’ll be looking at some fords, pretty much what we did in October 2013, depending on currents and depth I may also do 'em.

Are you pair in or out?

In.

BUT within the capabilities of the water sucking big Minge. We reserve the right to jib out and retrace our tyre marks. Bring a tape measure. :w00t:

That said, what with the late start I have a plan to convert the Minge to accomplish deep water wading, inspired by images of D-Day tanks.

So now that’s sorted. How uncomforable are waterproofs over leathers?

You never tried? Ask yer todger how it feels in a condom.

The plan.

With a nod to my inspirations Leonardo D and Heath R.

Looking good to go.

Although to be fair Mr Robinson, despite his reputation, tended to over engineer. It was Mrs Robinson who was a bit of a slap(per) and dash.

I re-name this ship BB III (Bib n Braces the t(h)urd) in the hope she’ll be as buoyant as a Mersey Floater, God bless all who ride her.

A great day messing about in the wetter

Not sure what happened to the weather, didn’t see too much of the heavy rain the Met Office forecast. Just the odd light shower in the afternoon. We did a tractor procession and a closed road detour on our way to five fords. Hay Green was no more than a damp patch across the road. Buttsbury had a fair flow but less than 6" deep. Danbury was another damp patch across the the road blink and you’d miss it. The not so little Little Baddow is always good and never disapoints. Nounsley was also in good flow and a nice follow on from Little Baddow before lunch.

The Essex Rose Tea Rooms, now part of the Wilkes & Sons tea room group, are highly recommended. We mainly settled on the vegetarian option with a very nice quiche lorraine, new potatoes and side salad but no lettuce, apologises accepted Tilly or was it Bob?.

After lunch an impromptu both ways through Dedham Ford, we passed it too many times trying to find our way to Great Bently it would have been rude to decline it all afternoon. Although only 6" deep it was proper slippery on the in and out ramps with some surprise pot holes on the concrete bottom. Once we found Great Bentley we had a Weeley good time, where we had a Weeley good time.

What a day, Cheers Art

Blown home safely so here’s some ford snippets of the day.

Home safely via Finchingfield, dry socks on at last after nursing a boot full of water since Dedham ford.:pinch:
Thanks for leading and the tea and coffee Art. That sat nav of yours had a Groundhog Day.
Brains foolishly had his bike washed yesterday, I`ve even got mud on my speedometer.:w00t:

Dedham was probably deeper than it looked, I had water swell over my left boot on the second pass.

Now thinking about knee high seal skin socks and/or 12" boots
