Sunday 26th April (Date TBC) Finchingfield Ride Out.

 hahahahahahaha

If I can, I will.

I’m in, I don’t mind to tail gun with Wise if necessary. No GoPro this time, otherwise rideout vids can become as fun as a commute to work daily videologs.

I might be there…

I’m most probably in too. Unfortunately couldn’t attent the one you had yesterday due to unforseen circumstances (read forced shopping :/) but am more than willing to be on this one. Been a while since the ride to Belgium and I’m itching to go. Can be the tail gunner if needed. Mainly because that way Ruth would always be ahead of me :w00t:

I’m withdrawing my offer of being tail gunner as there seem to be a lot people wanting to stare at Slans arse all day do the job. :Whistling:

Oi! I’d rather stare in them eyes but someone has to do the job!

Target fixation…

Sam are you sure :ermm:

Leaving High Beech via Earls Path and you’re most likely to encounter a four legged traffic jamb, approaching the Wake Arms roundabout from the South on the A121 and you’ll certainly encounter a four wheeled traffic jamb through Loughton High Road and probably extending all the way up Goldings Hill too. Remember the traffic and how slow that right turn was just before the Wake Arms was, you’ll be riding in and out of all that traffic.

Better is to jump straight on to the A104 Epping New Road or, leave the High Beech via The Kings Oak Hotel where you can stop, squeeze the sponge, powder your nose, play Daytona Dominoes, wash your boots or not. That way you can then approach The Wake Arms roundabout from Wake Road and the very short section of the A121 as we did on Sunday. The only downside is its a little slow turning right out of Wake Road and onto the Wake Arms roundabout. I prefer this route out of High Beech, especially with a larger group, because that T junction breaks up all the bunching from the start off without anyone getting too frustrated at having to fight for tarmac with the Sunday drivers.

and…

…I know of a ford to suit all, take the ford or take the tarmac

We did a ride through this one in 2012 where some rode straight through

some stopped to chat with the locals…

…and then did 180 burn outs

Cool, if you think thats the better route then we can do that, like I said, its open to change/opinions etc. If your coming would you be happy to lead again?? I take it the bridge accross the Ford isnt a mud track?
What about the roads on the way? Are they mud and gravel lined like Mondays? As thats what caused toony to slip off and id hate for that to happen to anyone again. Also a few comments from Monday were about the single track roads, could we avoid as much of those as possible?

MMMMMMMM!

Just throwing out some ideas, I’m not sure what plans I have for the 26th as yet.

The types of roads encountered are never going to be perfect and suit everyone. Single track roads are necessary to link the more interesting sections of a ride. For example how to connect The Hanningfields and The Burnham Bends avoiding the very boring A130, A12, A414 or the unclassified single track roads via East Hannifield and Bicknacre?

Unfortunately single track unclassified roads come with gravel, pot holes and blind bends. For me its all part of the challenge of the ride. The problems some riders have with this type of road, and I’m not saying this was the case with Toony, is inexperience or complacency of back road riding, lack of forward planning, lack of observations etc. Couple that into a group ride where there can be a temptation for some to ride beyond their comfort zone and somewhere there could be an accident waiting to happen.

BTW are you aware the route you’ve planned from Fyfield through to Hatfield Heath involves 7 or 8 miles of unclassified single track roads?

Lol, no I just put the start and end points into google maps and pressed avoid motorways lol. Thats why I need you to make final adjustments

I agree about the cause of most spills on rideouts, it is 100% to do with inexperience of those roads. I nearly had a very similar spill on my first Finchingfield run due to lack of experience of the road types. The BCR was a completely different story, I was riding well beyond my capabilities and was very lucky to get away with staying on 2 wheels, thats why I always ride my own ride now and never get involved in a willy waving competition on ride outs!

Ill go on the laptop later and run the whole route on street view to get the best run and then repost the route to see what you think.

All those chippies and mince pies paying off I see

Don’t forget the gravey!

Hows This Route???

Is this any better? i’ve gone through it on Street View and the roads are a mixture of Single track, nice country twisties and a bit of Dual Cariageway. has anyone done this route? if so is it any good?

I agree with the challenge bits of the roads, also is those road imperfections that allow me to keep up with your super posh fast bikes! XD!!

Anway I’m happy to ride wherever, thanks for organizing Sam!

And Yorkshire puds

That route looks good Sam, although as you say, we’ll need to check what its actually like to ride on, the conditions of the roads etc.

Conditions are good. Most of the route has been resurfaced. There are two corners when one have always gravel on it and second is bumpy. There will be crap on the roads, as a loot of farms we have around the route. In the middle there is petrol station where we always have stop for cig on.
There are few tricky corners, as well as one where I had accident but its easy when you focus. Done that route few times and it is nice. It’s challenging if you want to be quick.

Cool, i think we will be very hard pushed to find the Perfect Route so we have to accept some areas are going to be tricky. I will pencil this in as the Chosen Route and see what Art has to say about it.
