Back home again after getting separated on the M25 :(After the Dartford crossing tollbooths, I was following another member of our group and could see the main group up ahead. When we approached the junction for the M20 I realised I could no longer see the group ahead, and as we were in the fast lane I couldn’t see whether there was a person marking the exit as a big lorry was in the way. By then it was too late to leave the motorway so I overtook the guy in front and hammered it, maxed my big Bandit out to try to see if the riders in front of us were still on the M25. After 4 miles of that, and no riders in sight ahead, I knew they must have left at junction 3 so I stopped at J4, about 4 others including Joby stopped as well and Joby confirmed (I think - brief conversation on the hard shoulder with helmets on does not make for clear communication) we should have come off the previous junction. We went back, they left at J3 and I continued so I could signal to the marker on the other side of the motorway that they should continue on. Was surprised to see no-one there so continued to J2, got back onto the southbound M25 and then came off at J3, headed to the exit (for Brands Hatch), no sign of anyone, so back onto M20, back onto M25, continued anticlockwise as far as J6, then decided against continuing to Rye on my own as the others would probably have left by the time I got there. Don’t enjoy riding on my own much so cut my losses and headed home. Ended up doing 70 miles from Thurrock, so I guess I did end up getting a rideout of sorts
Samphire Hoe is a part of Kent, United Kingdom, consisting of reclaimed land made from 4.9 million cubic metres of chalk marl dug to create the Channel Tunnel deposited on the seaward side of the famous White cliffs of Dover. It is accessible by the public via single track tunnel controlled by traffic lights which crosses over the Kent Coast railway line. Visitor facilities are provided including car-parking, toilets and a cafe.
The ecology of Samphire Hoe is very special and what is now chalk meadow-land is home to a number of nationally rare plant species including the Early Spider Orchid.
Good ride - I dropped off on the way back as riding a naked bike at that kind of sustained pace in heavy cross winds was making me nervous! Pootled back in through London in the end
What a riot. I’m absolutely shattered now. Great ride and great company, thanks to one and all. Here is most of the route. I rode past the M25 on the way back so used the sat nav and came through the Blackwall Tunnel then Simon caught me up and we rode through a parade on Brick Lane to pick up a bagel and then did Simon’s tour of central London. Routes are below. I’ll catch you all soon.
That possibility did occur to me but I didn’t want to leave someone marking the M25 junction. I so nearly went to Oakdene too, during the M20 leg of my little jaunt
After i left you guys at Rye i had a little jaunt around the lanes, then came back to where we were all parked, and made my way, onwards to Stapleford Abbotts, missed my other half, as hed already left, so i took off to Stanford le Hope and eventually got home about 6.45pm…
What a lovely day it was today! Had a few “moments” with cagers just pulling out in front of me, not looking, same old stuff…was followed to Dartford Tunnel approach by some nice coppers…they sat behind me the whole way, then pulled into the middle lane and just went along side by side with me…then all of a sudden i got a “thumbs up” and they drove off !!! (what was that all about?) :hehe:
Good to meet u guys…l like those lanes to Rye and Hastings, one of my fav routes!
