Stupid question!!

As you guys know my cbr 600 got stolen this year in april…then I bought a bandit 650 o5 model…I built a shed\garage to protect it but one old b1tch near my house who has nothing better to do with her life complained so I had to take it down.

Now I have put 2 self made anchors under my front windows and also have an alarm on my bike. I am hoping this will be enough to keep the scums at bay. Also is the bandit prefered choice of scum ? I am not sure of that…

ground anchors, chains and an alarm are the minimum requirement in my opinion.

but as Ema and many others have found out it appears that no matter what precautions or security measures you take the scum will always get it IF they want it badly enough.

as for whether Bandits are preferred i reckon anything that can be nicked is given preferential treatment…

There are a few guys in my area…One with a brand new Kwak and another with a Duc.

Both left unchained and left for days on end in the same place.

I don’t think they’ll be around for much longer.

Some people who ride STILL don’t know.

And sometimes when I point out how lacking some biker’s security is, I’m met with the same ambivalent, “If they want it they’ll get it”.

I intimate from that, that if you can’t be bothered with security, then theft of your bike isn’t really an issue for you, and I don’t really have time for you because you have more money than sense.

lots of people get blase about getting their bikes nicked…until it actually happens and they feel the pain.

not a big deal to make it as hard as possible for the thieves. it should be a minimal insurance requirement.

When i bought a car a few years back the only insurers that would offer me anything resembling a decent quote would ONLY insure the car if i had a tracker fitted to it.

Not advocating that for all bikes but to at least put a chain/wheel lock on isnt a lot to expect.

you just have to make it as hard as possible for them…delay them…and try to make them HAVE to make noise to try and nick the bike…i know that if i can do all that, theres a good chance that A) they will f*k off else where and leave my bike alone B) i will catch them trying to nick it…

at the end of the day tho pro thieves know how to get what they want, they are cunning fuggers.

As has already been said, if they want it they’ll steal it!
It’s not just about chaining it to an inanimate object, getting the best alarm etc… What you should be aiming for is to make them think yours is too much hard work, and move onto another less well protected bike!
+1 on what Ratty say’s, make it more of a task for them, and make it so they would have to cause a lot of noise to get you P+J.
It’s the same principle as with your home and how burglars think. If they are looking at the houses on your street, they are more likely to go for the house with very little security, as opposed to the one with cages on the windows and a bloody great big dog in the yard! :stuck_out_tongue:

RR

There’s only one way to stop your bike being stolen;)

Just do what I do:D

Yep, that’s what I reckon - make it as difficult as you can.

I’ve even gone as far as tying up my cover under the bike. It might mean an extra ten seconds of hassle - and noise - for me to hear.

It’s more work putting the bike to bed and waking it up, but hey…

use the anchors on the old bitch instead??:w00t: maybe she’s got ur cbr600!!??:hehe:

Are bandits a target? Yes, of course they are. There are thousands out there and they break realy easily into saleable lumps.

Is your’s a target? No. There are so many more out there with no protection that the chains and anchors should be more than enough deterent, any alarm is a bonus.

Having been a theft victim, I know the angst, but sleep tight. Yours is low down on the scumbags list.

if your cover has tying down holes, get a small cable lock, bicycle type, and lock teh cover to teh bike, stops its blowing off in teh wind and its more hassle for any thief:D

first thing i would do if i caught a thief in the act…release my hound!!

then me and my bro would probably ‘restrain’ them till old bill show up.

Making it harder for a thief is half the fun:D i sooo love booby traps:P even better when you film it…just make everything harder for a thief even if it means sewing huge bells to your bike cover:D oh and another old stunt was to remove your seat and take it indoors with you if thief see’s under cover they think its broken down and leave yours alone:D

Just out think the little feckers:cool:

It was not my case, they break into the garage and they got the bike which had the best security devices. Why they did not steal other bikes in the garage that have not such security systems or other bikes outside the garage (so they did not need to break into, just in front of a CCTV). They got the only bike that had a cover on top!! Probably they knew the bike and was targeted.

Eman

what other bikes were around it? bikes as new as yours? i think yours was targetted too mate.

what im saying is mate, sometimes there is nothing you can do, but the bike being in an underground car park i think is sometimes risky too, its isolated, gives thiefs cover to work on nicking it, whos gonna hear a bit of noise in an underground car park? CCTV only puts people off if they know its been watched 24/7, trust me i know that for sure.

either way its a shame your bike got taken, i hope you get it back.

Anyone know if i need to apply for permission to put a ground anchor into the street outside my flat? And if so is it Council or highways? It’s a rented flat so I can’t put them into the garden.

I have a disclok and chain only - tho luckily my bikes only worth £700 tops so prob not worth nicking!

Gotta agree with WASP

I do love a Booby Trap:D

Best bang for your buck is a 12 Bore Alarm Mine. It fires shotgun blanks when set off:w00t:

Guaranteed to wake the entire street and the goon to cr@p his pants;):D:D:D

When you say best security do you mean Alaramed, Disc Lock, Ground Anchros with Alamax Chains and Tracker, Cover locked with chains and also locked so it cannot be lifted up?

Just wondering…

Seems to me that the best security would be a garage, a bike garage inside the garage, 2 ground anchors, alarm, tracker, alarm inside garage, alarm inside small bike garage, big fat chain and lock on big garage, a dorberman or another big ass killer dog inside the garage? shotgun???

And even then it is not secured as they can simply knock on your door point a gun to your head and tell you to just unlock it and give them the keys:(

If they want it they’ll get it doesn’t matter how you lock down your babies

Its a dog eat dog world out there

I’ve been playing around with a similar system to the ones you get in electrical shops.

Only really useful if you can park your bike right outside of your house.

Looking at 2 options;

1: Either wiring the circuit into the house alarm, benefit is loud with flashing lights and direct dial to police but don’t know if ADT would be too impressed

2: Keeping it on a separate circuit and having the control downstairs where I won’t forget to turn it off before I go out to the bike and the alarm speaker in the bedroom so the second it’s tripped I’m awake
