I’m thinking about chopping my ZX6R in and getting a Street Triple. Need to get something more upright and ergonomic to my size and body problems.
I’m just wondering what sort of life expectance I could expect with one of these? I’ll ride all year round so would cover about 12k miles per year, what ever the weather (other than snow and ice of course! :P). Would I be looking for a new engine after 2 years or would the engine take 100k miles?
I’ve put 9,000 miles on mine since April and I’ve only had one thing even sort of go wrong… it overheated one day, but its not done it since. Its been on long trips, short trips and sunday blasts and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!
I’m riding mine to work everyday and will continue to do so through the winter. I think the finish is fairly decent too be honest, like all bikes its going to need to be washed down in the winter and given a bit more TLC, but as a commuter its a great bike.
I’ve just at the arrow 3-into-1 system on it and I’ll probably look to upgrade the rear suspension unit (with the R version) depending on how much that costs…
I can’t praise the bike enough, with the visor and flyscreen on its comfortable crusing at a hundred, its short, light and narrow which makes commuting nice and easy!
If you’ve got any questions, give me a shout! Carl Rosner had one in stock y’day when I was there that wasn’t sold yet… in green…
Thanks for the info. Do you think it would need washing down after every journey in the winter or would be ok to leave a weeks worth of crud on and wash at the weekend?
I’m 6’5" so a bit concerned about the size but I’ve got a test ride booked for Saturday so will check that issue out then.
Hmmm… I dont think every day - but I’ll be hosing mine down in the office every day just incase… you could just get it treated with ACF-50 that would do the trick! Your height might be an issue though - have you booked in for a test ride of a speed triple too? I loved the speed, it was stunning, but just thought it was a bit much for a first bike! That and it was £3k more than the street once I’d put the extras on it!
ACF 50 is the way to go in winter no question. A good wash at the weekend and you should be ok assuming it does not sleep outside unless under a nice cover
I normally coat the exposed parts on my bikes with the Scott Oiler protective stuff, is that the same thing?
I would love a Speed Triple but they are out of my price range. I’ve been offered a demo Street Triple for £4900 with lots of optional extras such as fly screen and headlight surround, belly pan etc…
There are some really nice triples on ebay.
Take a look…
The spray is alot more waxy and thicker than the scot. You can put it all over the plastic as well as the metal work too. Just not the brakes lol
or another alternative may be a z750, ive bought one in may with 3000 miles on the clock, shes now up to 14,000 miles and ive used it for commuting, and big trips, im just about to start prepping it for winter, acf50 and wd40:)
I cant add much here except to say that they are british made for british weather and I have generally heard good reports about their longeivity…the engines are like most engines these days…with the right oil, and oil and filter changes they last for well over 100,000 miles…
I’ve had a small oil leak - loose bolt and the usual coolant leak (tightening of the jubilee clip - sorted)
Other than that, like KML said, it is pretty good for everything. I’ve done a day trip to Belgium and had no probs whatsoever. It does everything I ask of it for a commuting bike, and it’s comfy, as I’m 6’3".
I’ve put the arrow exhaust on and it does drink like a student (85-90 before the fuel light comes on) but it sounds sweet. Sorted the tail out a few weeks ago (Mad Doctor), again… sweeeeet. Not comfy over 110 (like being in the ring with Mike Tyson) and will go to around 140’ish (track obviously :Whistling:)
Anything else you need to know, PM me. It’s a great bike - you won’t be disappointed.
Alex.
Oh, and don’t listen to Westie - his bike’s lame (hee hee)
Holy Cow, really? I’ve just put on the arrow 3 into 1 system and this is my first full tank with the system on… I’m at 80 miles on my clock at the minute, so we shall see when it comes on tomrorow on my ride into work! I’ll be pissed off if my light comes on at 80 miles though - that means the tank range is about 100 miles…?? The light comes on with 3 litres left right?
What tail tidy did you get on? I’m going to remove my pillion footpegs this weekend, so need to get a tail tidy sorted… you got any photos of yours??
But i agree with you alex a stunning bike! Ask Phantomgixer too - he’s got an R on order for january!
TBH if you’re 6’5" you should forget about the Street Triple coz its a tiny bike next to a 1050 (i’m 6’3"). I love the idea of the Street and pound for pound its the best bike on the “street” right now. But I parked my 1050 next to one a few months back and realised it just wasnt viable.
oh and btw i’m selling my 1050, its in the classifieds :w00t:
