strange insurance quotes

bit wierd this insurance malarky

brand new rider, South East London, 32.3 yrs old, un-garaged, ground anchor, massive chain/lock, fit a CAT 1 alarm if required

TPFT quotes:

2004 Fazer 600 (value £3400) = £437

2002 CBR600 FS-1 (value £3400) = £234

both in good condition, can an '04 fazer really be more tempting to a thief/joy-rider than a CBR600?

surely it just encourages a new rider onto a more dangerous bike?

The Honda will have an immobiliser and chances are Honda smartwater too. Harder to steal and easier to track. Unless they have been added i dont think the Fazer’s come with that. Besides Newer bikes are always more desirable to steal.

And quotes are based on some actual facts (i.e. some models get stolen more often, or cost more to repair in a crash, so those models will cost more to insure).

However, different insurers will have different experiences of levels of claims (and hence will offer a cheaper quote for the same bike), so there’s some room for you to shop round.

i had a quote come down when all I changed was increasing the annual mileage! :w00t:

Sometimes you’ll just hurt your head trying to understand it.

i got one for my DT125 last year and it came to £9000 :w00t:

just had my renewal quote £305 with present one equity

£250 with NIG, I know which Im going with

It’s always going to happen.

I have a nephew who is an “actuarial mathemetician” (I think) for insurance companies.

It’s all about statistics and extrapolation from the data.

Oh, and they make it up as they go along.

Oldguy.

“There’s lies, damned lies and insurance.” (Sorry, Winston.)

3 years ago my renewal came through for £490 ! had been £350 the previous year, nothing else had changed other than another year without claiming. :w00t:

However, between the renewal notice arriving & the insurance period starting I acquired a speeding conviction (6 points & £500 fine), so I called CN to advise them of this & get a re-quote, the resulting quote ? £250 !!

Nearly every time i renew my insurance, car or bike. I always phone around and find it cheaper than staying with the same insurance company!

When I passed the quote for a 2003 CBR600F was higher than the 2005 one :ermm:

Yup, sometimes sticking with the same company helps, but even then, get other quotes and call them back if you get a cheaper offer.

Amazing how much they can sometimes cut their quote by.

Oldguy.

Same happened for me when I renewed, except that I had another years bonus and the quote went up £310. In the end that “managed” to give me a quote that was far more reasonable. In the end it went down by £435.

Best thing is to call around and get quotes, and challenge the brokers on the unreasonable.

zx 6 tpft 290 quid a year had that written off some kind women driving without due care an attention knocked me off

paid out within 5 weeks with hire car thrown in from the following monday after the accident

got a new bike fireblade rrv

fully comp 247 quid

but when they sent out the renewal quote it was 890 quid lol

rang them promptly and told them no chance they said my claim had not been setled so another call to claims to let them now thay had to inform the quotes dep my claim had been settled with third party

hence 247 quote lol
