to say i am a bit on the hard side when it comes to penalties that should be awarded would be an understatement
if he had got hit by someone going too fast, then the consequences for those in the car dont bear thinking about, multi-manslaughter etc…
living without a car is possible (shock/horror) and the taxi/public-transport fares all year will sting, he obviously didnt need transport for work or he wouldnt have been banned
dangerous driving convictions should always = a ban but for some reason this doesnt always happen
the main reason he deserves the ban is that he refused to admit he did a stupid thing, def needs to be brought down a peg or fifty
Utter madness on both sides. What’s wrong with a 3 points and a fine ?
Still, shows that the govt plan to focus on speeding was correct :w00t: , he was only doing 20 mph so in his mind was completely safe . . . how could he be anything other than driving in complete safety when he was going so slowly
12 month ban and a “retest” is fair, considering. I’m not trying to be anti-Semitic (sic), but some Hasidic Jews are the worst drivers I’ve ever crossed paths with. I’ve had a few near misses as a pedestrian from these chaps, who will happily ignore pedestrian crossings and one-way signs as if they don’t apply to God’s chosen. As one of my work colleagues discovered a couple of years ago, if they run you down they’re unlikely to stop either. Apparently they sometimes get one guy to take driving tests under different names to help out his less talented brethren, the regulation beard and glasses helping to obscure identity. I’d say it’s a fair bet the “retest” will be the first one he’s ever taken.
Quote… 'The defendant denied his action had been dangerous ’
Well of course they’re gonna ban him ! if i was the person handing down the sentence and the perpetrator could not even acknowledge the law or the absence of his own common sense then that would sway me toward a harsher
judgment.
I do actually think his crime was of a fairly high order anyway, he was responsible for those kids lives and if he really thinks that little kids standing between the seats is safe cos he was 'only doing 20 mph ’ he deserves no mercy .
a/ I use the term “anti-Semitic” guardedly. The Semitic races are the descendents of Shem and consist of the Judaic and Arabic tribes. Not many people have their heads round that.
b/ I said some not all as I base my judgement on my limited personal experience (although a Jewish colleague currently in Israel tells me that they drive as abominably there as here, if not worse).
Their driving aside, if you meet them walking in the park and strike up a conversation, one finds that they are generally very nice, thoughtful and gentle people. That’s the way it is. Don’t blame me for the reality of the situation.
