Stolen Yamaha TMax 2010

Make and model: Yamaha TMax 2010 - Grey
Reg: LD10 CVW

I was so happy yesterday, I collected the keys to my first own home ever, started moving my stuff last night by bike, then it was late, parked it on street as usual and went to bed.

This morning at around 5.10, my flatmate gets up to take a pee, looks outside the window, comes to my room and wakes me up asking where my bike was. I look outside the window, and it’s gone.

Reported the theft to the police and the insurance straight away.

I’m so upset I feel like crying, it couldn’t happen in a worse moment with the move and all. Plus I don’t wanna think of having to go back using public transport, that’s so depressing and such a waste of time.

Forgot to say, it was parked in Stanmore Road, N15, just next to the corner with West Green Road:

Not the best area, I know…

there’s no safe place in London to leave a bike on the street :frowning:

welcome to the forum btw

Sorry to hear this. I live 2 mins up the road from you and had my r6 stolen in April. My mate had his scooter stolen from mannock road 2 weeks later. Theft is rife!

Just received a letter yesterday from the Police, they already closed the case on the ground there are no witnesses, no CCTV, no nothing…

I’m not blaming them, what can they do? (what would you do if you were them?)

What pisses me off is that motorbike theft in London is such a huge problem and noone seems to be doing anything about it.

Just received the money from the insurance.

Now I’d like to get a new one but other than a sturdy chain and something fixed to chain it to, what other security devices would you recommend? Alarm? GPS tracker? …?

I want to catch those bastards in case they try again!!! >:[

From the stories I’ve heard, getting yourself a 19mm Almax chain and chaining your bike to something that can’t be easily picked up and put in the back of a van, along with your bike, is your best bet. Anything else doesn’t really deter tea-leafs from picking the bike up and putting it in a van - although the more the merrier when it comes to security.

19mm Almax chains can’t be cropped so the only way to get it off is with an angle grinder which would probably draw a bit of attention at 2am outside your house I would imagine?

As above.

I also use a XENA alarmed disk lock on the front wheel.

And it’s always covered, even though it lives underground.

Get a Scorpio i900 or rLink i-1100 alarm both of them have remote notifications so you will get an instant message to the alarm’s remote or to your mobile phone depending on which model you opt for.
Also the rLink is a very good GPS tracker. I’ve used both alarms now as I couldn’t find anything decent in the UK at the time and I don’t even rate decent names like DataTool much.

They’re very advanced alarms and available from www.stateofarms.com in the UK which started offering them a year ago. I upgreaded to the rLink and it works great. I’ve had two attempts to fiddle with my Hornet and foiled both of them. One was at 3am but I got the text message and went running outside and they took off up the road.

Physical security I’ve only got a Xena disc lock and it’s pretty solid.

BM

Xena for sure!
I own four of them.

Ok guys, I’ll probably follow your advice but even before buying the bike and chain etc, I need something to chain it to!

I have a private reserved car bay and I was thinking to put a ground anchor there.

What do you think of this one?
http://www.hardie-secure.com/acatalog/Large_Stainless_Steel_Ground_Anchor.html

Call me a sceptic, but anything that just bolts in to the ground isn’t that secure if you ask me. I prefer the idea of something you can concrete in - something like the concave built in gound anchor at the bottom of this page:

http://www.elitesecuritysupplies.com/ground_anchors.htm

Dig a big enough hole - wider at the bottom - then cement one of those ground anchors in and put your block work or whatever back over the top, leaving you with just two holes to thread your chain through - nothing to cut through with a torch or angle grinder apart from your chain, and harder to pull out of the ground than something that is just bolted in.

Yeah looks good, but in case I’d probably go for the one just above it as the one you say would quickly fill up with rain water and leaves and dirt…

Btw, I just moved in in my new place, it’s not like I’ve got all these tools… :frowning:

The anchor I described has a drain pipe to prevent it from filling up with water, the anchor above has a part that could be cut with a torch or angle grinded.

EDIT: I think ratcatcher (?) may offer an ‘anchor install service’

Oh sorry didn’t read about the drain, ok water might drain but what about the rest (leaves and dirt…)?
(I’m being picky eh eh eh)

Choice between maybe having to occasionally clear out some leaves from the tube, or having an anchor that can be cut/grinded - i know which I’d choose :Whistling::smiley:

The point is, if they were to spend time cutting/grinding the anchor, they can do the same with a chain… :ermm:

indeed, but the less options you give them to cut/grind through, the better imho. I don’t know enough about the shackles on those other anchors - are they as strong as an Almax chain? A thief will always take the route of least resistance, so they could perhaps just cut thorugh the shackle if it is the weakest link, then pick your bike up and put it in a van.

Well, it’s stainless steel, I think it would take some time to cut/grind…

Btw it wouldn’t be the only security device, I’ll probably also put a disc lock as adviced by others above and likely a gps tracker.

As I said, if they even attempt to touch my bike another time, I want to **** them so hard!
