Stolen Black Triumph Speed Triple RK08 DYG

Popped to the local after work for a quick pint and instead of leaving my Speed Triple in the office car park I rode it 10 secs down the road and left it in a bay round the side of the pub. Left 30 mins later to head home and it was gone. Guess some low lives must have bundled it in to a van or something. Gutted and really upset of course. Reported to the police and will have to claim on insurance (MCE) tomorrow. Anyone have any idea how long it will take for them to pay out?

Just in case, it was stolen from the top of Ladbroke Grove and is a black Triumph Speed Triple - RK08 DYG.

First time I’ve had something nicked and it is a truly horrible experience.

aaaw DUDE! WTF is happening in London??? The worst part is , is that if we take matters into our own hands then we are the ones who ar effed!

not cool EVER.

It does feel like thefts happen constantly nowadays…

A bike that has been left there for 30 mins is most likely taken by opportunists. Might be worth going round local estates etc?

Really sorry to hear it man! :frowning:

Sorry to here that Hope you get it back soon

damn thieves, they really need to have a crack down in london. well ill give em that they’ve got good taste. sory to here this mate

Sorry for you brother :frowning:

As for insurance payouts… mine was stolen on October 19th and I’m still waiting… they are VAMPIRES!

Somethings got to be done about the volume of thefts - its like Gone in 60 Seconds round here!

Sorry to hear.

Its an awful experience mate. 3 years on I still curse the yobs that stole mine. It was my dream bike.

It may be found. Always have a little hope. When dealing with the insurance explain how fantastic the condition is, standard etc. They knock money off very easily so watch what you say. Never take their first offer. Good Luck.

Please please pleas photocopy everything you send them! I then took pics on my phone as i put them in envelope and the address i sent it to. Also send recorded or something. Just think that envelope could be worth £7k+

I say that because MCE and RSA LOST my documents and keys!!!

After sending my photocpies (of which I photocopied again) they accepted I had sent them and it was their fault. It was touch and go whether they were going to pay me or not! Other than that they were good. I accepted their 4th offer. 1st was 3k, then £3200, then £3700, finally accepted (after talking to a manager) £4400! result in my eyes  took a few phone calls and standing my ground but its to someone on a phone working for a company so your not trying to fleece them money, but more the company. We pay a huge amount for substandard insurance in my eyes so get every pennys worth!

Good tip Lewis!

Hopefully there will be a mint recovery.

Yep thanks for the tip, I didn’t think about them wanting it all as everything should in theory be in record, but I have colour Copied everything as I know what royal mail can be like!
Hope I don’t have a problem!

thanks for the comments everyone. pretty upset last night.

so, had a phone call at 9am from the police to say my bike had been found crashed a few streets away from where it was taken, at around midnight. the street they found it on is just across from my office. when i reported it stolen to the police they asked if i wanted recovery should it be found, i was told they would call me if it was found and asked if i wanted them to then arrange the collection or go and get it myself. i said ok, as long as i was called to check first then put me down for it as i might want to take them up on the service. he said if i refused at that point then there would be no way of having it recovered by them if found.

so of course i didn’t get a call when it was found and they arranged the recovery without asking so it has been taken to a pound in Enfield. i’ve called them now and the bike has a few minor scuffs where it was dropped and the ignition barrel and steering lock are buggered so it cannot be ridden away. oh, and it is going to cost me £180 to have it released. and i am going to have to book a van to collect it and get up to Enfield on Monday to have it released.

not only angry about the theft of course and the cost of repairing the damages (with a £500 excess and 3 years no claims I doubt I will run it through insurance) I am also being lumped with the best part of £250 to get it back as the police did not call me when they found it! I could have driven up there at midnight and rolled it back to my office.

I’ll be lodging a formal complaint to the police about all that and try to recover all my costs, anyone got any idea how that might play?

at least the bike is safe though, if a little damaged. just pray the bill for fixing her up is not to high.

thieves should have their hands cut off.

A little bit of damage is better than no bike. Congrats on the find. Not many have that good fortune:)

Lucky bloke to get it back!

Shame it has damage, but that can be repaired in time. In terms of the Police, shamd they didnt call, but they also didnt have to get it recovered. imagine your disappointment in getting a phone call this morning telling you they left it where they found it. you get there and its gone! Im not having a dig. Good luck getting your money back. If its done correctly they may accept. Did you get an officers name/call operators name etc? they will have records of this too!

Good luck!

Yeah, Lewis, I see what you mean. Chances are I would have asked them to recover it if it was the middle of the night, but as it was only midnight and I was up I would have wanted the phone call as I could have got there quite quickly to sort it. As you say, it may have been nicked again though, so perhaps it is for the best! Though now I think about it, the police said it was not actually collected until 4am, so it was still left stranded for 4 hours!!!

I don’t want to sound harsh on the police, but they did not do as promised and it is going to cost me £250 as a result.

Still, at least it is safe and hopefully not too damaged. Sadly it has taken this to inspire me to sort out extra security, I now wonder if a simple disc lock would have helped dissuade kids from a joy ride.

Keep them safe everyone!

as greasemonkey says you should have let em recover it only in the sence of if left i guarantee another load of scrotes would have been by had a go at it etc and you not have seen it at all after.

phone 1 of the bike recovery breakdown lot, see how much they quote to get your bike from enfield to you.

disc locks are good, and it might sound daft, but if you can put one on the rear disc, it will stop em picking up the front wheel and wheeling it in to a van, and harder to cut off,

Shite!
At least you got it back…

Where do you want it delivered to?

ahh thats good news

bike theft sucks, so it is good to hereof a result for a change. shame it has damage though.

my beautiful black speed triple was taken today - how someone can take a pair of bolt cutters to a chain on the busiest part of wardour street during the day and bundle her into a van, without anyone taking notice(!), I just don’t understand

LJ55 RJU for what it’s worth

A dark day…:frowning:
