Stolen bike recovered...

Sitting in my unmarked police car today in north east London when a young lad rides past on a top quality 125…

To cut a long story short, he looks too young to ride so I follow him until he gets off. The bike was stolen so the lad gets nicked. The victim has got his bike back and chummy is off to court.

There ends the happy story.

Top draw fella!

Well done Lofty keep up the good work Mate

Hey, well done!

Ah, you made the owners week I bet! Nice one! It must be nigh-on impossible to spot a stolen vehicle going past, musn’t it? Or do you develop a sixth-sense for it?

top man!

Very good idea Tony! Perhaps we could get an inside of the cops view point on bike theft ? Some ‘do’s and don’t do’s’ ?

Cheerz for your comments.

Despite what MCN report, the Met does care about bikes and their owners. The car park where I work is full of bikes. The trouble normally is catching the buggers! You will know how hard it is for a car to chase a bike! Give me a ZX14 I say!

Our borough is full of fixed automatic number plate readers now and we are using them to catch people. A few weeks ago we had four stolen cars (with prisoners) on one night.

No doubt the thief today will get off lightly, but we can only keep trying, and the guy who had his bike nicked at least has it back.

Best wishes

ZZRLofty

ZZRLofty , if in any way LB could join forces with the Met to help in this fight, we are open for that! Please PM me if it sounds interesting to you?

I’ll PM you when back at work. Until then, if anyone would like to see what policing in the capital is like from the inside, PM me. Subject to a few checks(!) it will be possible to “entertain” a few LB’ers… THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES. SORRY BUT I CANNOT ADD ANYONE ELSE UNTIL THE LIST UNTIL 2006!!

In the meantime why not visit www.immobilise.com and register your mobile phones, IPODs, bicycles etc… it is a national database that the police check against when we find people in possession of phones etc. It is FREE and will help to reduce crime.

Big well done to ZZRLofty. Nice to hear of a thief getting caught for a change. Does not seem to happen too often but I congratulate you on your efforts.

Top marks fella!

Unfortunately the CPS will probably undo all your good work

The US can employ vigilanties… why can’t the British?

I’d love to see what goes on, as I must admit I’m sure there is a lot going on that we never know about.

I’d love to do traffic patrol as it’s just horrific the standard or lack of it of drivers ( and riders ) .

Anyone know what the current deal is with drivers on the phone ? The new law doesn’t seem to have changed anything at all, and there is many a time I wished Dawn had a camera on her so as we passed someone she could snap them and post them on the web… www. ban the *******s .com

Hi Lofty… I too Just want to say well done with catching that little toerag… Unfortunatly, the sentences that these A holes are handed out are no where near long enough to stop them from affending again…

Like Bike2travel said, If there is anything we can do on LB to help prevent theft and now violence, let us know…

Nice one, good to see the little scrote get sent off to court shame he’ll probably get a fine and a slap on the wrist

Wwell done lofty and good to hear

PS whats the make of the unmarked car so that we know and dont go screaming past you

Oi! Not so hard on the CPS, (I’m a Crown Prosecutor) that’ll probably be a handling charge and not a theft. Unless there’s evidence that he stole it as well.

We do our best in getting cases to court but we have no control over the sentence they get, more’s the pity.

Top result … top man!!
