Anybody fancy a spring ride on some of these passes ? I’m thinking of a week in late spring. No need for cornerman What a great way to spend a few days
Haven’t forgotten but there’s no route yet so I don’t know if you’re going where I’d like to go
I fancy having a few days of getting down there as fast as possible, have a lark about and come back, would like to go down through Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and maybe back via France. Will be buying sat nav obviously as I’d never get to Dover on my own without it :w00t:
We had a few days in Switzerland this Summer. GREAT place. Extremely beautiful countryside, and good roads.
We were mainly around Lake Geneva and Interlaken. Did a couple of mountain passes (excellent, but don’t look down!). There’s a good day’s riding around Interlaken that we didn’t have time to do, but which is basically a route in the shape of a couple of figure-8’s which takes you up and over one set of mountains on one pass, then back on another, and so on.
I went there several times when I was young, about 8 or 10 and we drove over probably 10 passes but I was too young to appreciate it, my Dad mentions it occassionally and Top Gear did trigger the thought again and now I have a bike it’s the ideal time
Considering getting the bike on a train to avoid the long distance haul, just looking at options, any suggestions welcome.
It’s about 650m to Geneva iirc. We did it in 2 stages, with an overnight stop off in the Champagne region, on 250 scooters. Reckon you’ll do it a lot easier on something faster. Trains are pretty spenny, and I don’t think you can do UK>>>Switzerland easily (but if you find a way, let us know, as Mrs BB might be persuaded a lot easier if there’s a way on the trains)
Anyway I could well be up for this, if I can get my act together and start saving, plus renewing/applying for a new passport!
Steve how does going all the way to Italy to visit Alice sound? There must be some great roads en-route plus some good roads around Italy, as Afro has already pointed out…
I have friends who have a place not far from Toulouse that they rent out, could be good for the return trip, taking in the Millau Viaduct en-route, plus I have a mate who’s just moved his family to Normandy, I could see if they could put us up for the last night before the return to Blighty?!?
Yep Tim, sounds good, my passport is hopefully on the way back to me right now and a trip to Spain sounds good. Could be the same trip as Terry/Grim/Debz are organising ? Not seen their route yet, we could go with them then take a detour for a few days and rejoin or do another trip earlier in the year, I’ve really got to do something in spring, April-May time.
Looks like I have some saving and planning to do, sounds like it could be a trip to remember, anyone know what the weather down that way is like April/May time of year?!?
