Spraying a fuel tank?

I’ve got a 18lt fuel tank for my KTM, but it’s a bit tatty. Is it possible to filler it, rub it down and spray it. I’ve never done any thing like this before but I’m prepared to give it a go, the thing is I’ve no idea what to use. So firstly, is it plausable for me to give it a go? What type of filler should I use? What type of primer and paint should I use? Also, how do I get the satin finish that the body work and tank has at the minute.

I’ve had a quote in the region of £150 and that price on top of buying the tank and graphics does not make it the cheap option I was looking for.

It is possible to do. You need lots of fine and medium grade wet and dry. If there are small scratches suggest you use primer filler paint, this will fill minor scratches. Do not take a wire brush to the tank first, it causes more harm than good. Make sure you prepare the surfaces correctly. Its time consuming but saves wonga.

I had the tank bag for the LC4 and it scratched the tank to fook. I used a little wax stick thing that looks a bit like lip stick, you rub it into the scratches and build up a layer of wax. Then I used black turtle wax and hay presto, good as new. Quality stuff and doubt it would cost much more than a tenner. Can’t remember what the lipstick stuff was called, but if you ask me when I get back from Poland I’ll tell ya, would reckon Halfords or somewhere would know what it was.
