So I’ve got a couple of weeks away with work coming up and they’ve said I can go on my bike. I was thinking of taking the Hornet but then the 749 never gets to really stretch it’s legs and seeing as I have to buy the luggage anyway why not buy some that works on both?
I know nothing about trying to get luggage that will attach to a sports bike having never traveled a great distance with a sports bike. Any tips/ good makes?
Or you can drill into a spare pilion seat and mount a givi plate to it then use a top box. You’d probably only have to do that for the 749 because there is most likely an actual bracket for the Hornet.
You can fit tonnes in an E45 or an E52 plus they are waterproof and you don’t have to worry about them melting to the exhaust etc.
Seriously, Kriega is very good, looks cool, it British and doesnt cost an arm and a leg, is waterproof and lasts. Tailpack/ tankbag/ rucksack or all 3.
+1 for oxford saddle bags. I’ve not much experience but they’re cheap and they hold my gear nicely. plenty of straps etc on them and 4 bungees so they didn’t move around at all. Not a very good pic for reference but this was a week’s clothing and a few xmas presents for good measure
Having two bikes it’d make sense to have kit which fits both bikes easily. For me a tank bag’s a must have, it’s somewhere to put you valuables and things you need quickly. Get one that removes quickly and easily, no problem then to whip it of when you go into a cafe for lunch.
This is mine and it’s a really nice size, not too big and not too small. It’d fit both the 749 and the Hornet. It’s a Wolfman Express.
Same with the tailbag, I’ve got a FAMSA travel bag, comes with a variety of fixings, so you can get a good fit even on sports bikes without many attachment points.
I’ve had them both on a few bikes now and still happy, much cheaper than the Baglux / Ventura set up where you need to have two tank covers and two fixing frames. I change bikes fairly often so wanted decent kit that would switch easily from bike to bike, without adding extra expense each time.
Wow! Such a response from everyone. Thanks for your input.
I’m thinking lots of options but given that I have a 30L Oxford tailpack I’m thinking these will be a good addition.
60L capacity
and
Couple of litres just to have maps and wallet handy so there’s only one bag to remove when I get off for a pee.
Now all I need to do is figure out how much fuel is left when the light comes on. I think the fuel light is coming on when I’ve used less than 7 litres which is only half a tank!!
That one’s easy. Just get a 2 litre petrol proof container and shove it in a back pack. Ride till the fuel light comes on and note the mileage, then keep riding till the bike runs out. Simples.
Oh, you might want to consider getting a 1 lire alloy flask from a camping shop to take with you. Fuel stations can be a bit thin on the ground in mainland Europe.
It’s one of the few bits of kit a couple of headbanger I know always carry.
