Speeding in London

A question to those in the knowledge.

If you are caught on camera for doing 37mph in a 30mph are you offered the half day course on speed awareness?

I got filmed at 41 in a 30 and got a straight 3 points in Buckinghamshire and was told that because it was 41 i was not intitled.

Does this apply with London/Metropolitan area.

And no it wasn’t me that got caught…because i don’t go fast enough;)

Thanks

:stuck_out_tongue:

Can’t help you on this one… I was caught doing 72 in 40… Still waiting for court case tho. Think it will be more thant £60.

I got done for 37 in a 30 going through Brixton. Yes, I was offered the awareness course instead of the points. It was cheaper to take the points and the 60 quid fine. I’m not sure if you’ll get offered the course option if you’ve already got points on your license.

You basically get 10% + 4 mph as the ‘buffer’ for the speed awareness.

and most of the speedos are showin with 10% buffer aswell… so normally you can pass 40 cam doing 48, 50 doing 60 and so on…

Now it all depend what basic number you start with, because if it is the one in the round panel on the side of the road… thanks good for my French license and stealth number place. Well worth the £30 I seems to pay once a year when I get pulled because I am stupid enough to ride with Arnie or Andy:w00t:

I was caught doing 38 in Essex and was offered speed awareness course, probably be force variations and local issues:D

I got caught at 37 in a 30 at the end of my road, which means they must have clocked me as I was slowing down to turn at the junction. If the van was parked a few yards further along I wouldn’t have been given the option… I opted for the speed awareness course, only thanks to the Royal Mail the form I sent off never arrived so I got the points anyway :angry:I know you can’t do the course twice, but does anyone know if you lose the option once you have points on your license, even if you’ve never done it before?

In Essex there is a time scale during which you can’t be offered it again, but I can’t remember,it was years I’m sure but not how many:)

I was caught 112mph on the M25 (Surrey stretch) and was given the option of guilty or not guilty in court

So I took guilty of a 85mph blaming the rest on the coopers for not respecting the 2 seconds rules on their unmarked car and therefor making me fear for my life and accelerationg to pull away.

£100 fine and 30 court cost

I called that result.

(PS: I had a british licence then by the way)

2 years

38 and under you can be offered the course, but will not be offered it again for 3 years after.

But is that for the Metropolitan Police area.

:crying:

thats handy to know:)

i usualy get tickets for no right turns:)

never got offered it in cambridgeshire £60 + 3 points to you sir

as i said it could be offered does not auto apply to everyone, not quite sure how they pick which ones to offer it to.

I was talking about this with my cousin and he said 10% +2mph, which kind of shocked me because I thought it was more (+5?). Wherein is it written? “Oh sorry officer, the speedo is off a powerboat so it’s in knots…”

When I was young and foolish…

I was done for 61mph on a 40mph dual carriage way, 5 points and £120 fine. Hopefully they treat you better.

I had 3 points on my license and they offered it to me. It’s 2 or 3 years before they offer it again though. It does depend how much over the limit you are too. Not sure of the details. I think I was doing 33 but it’s a while ago now.
