Southeast (croydon)

Hey, i’m looking into buying a bike but i want to know about some places in the southeast that i can actually use it!

the type of bike i want is a motocross, scrambler type

for example

Does anyone know of any places as close to croydon (in surrey) as possible? i’d love to find a place that i can show up and ride, just to practice… and also some places that hold the big events, competitions and such . i’m mostly looking for dirt tracks, but if there are alternatives that would allow me to take part on a bike like that, then i’m happy to try those too.

i’ll be very grateful for any help, as soon as i get the info i want i shall be buying a bike like the one in my example above.

(postcode is CR0)

PM Duncan, he is our off road wizz and lives in SE London.

You can also get in touch with the local Trail Riders Federation - each group has a local rep who keeps the BOATs and RoW up to date and they run regular jaunts out too

The bike you pointed out on e-bay appears to be for a child.
How old are you?

The motocross track that Chuffster mentioned is known to me as Churchill farm and it is open at weekends. You just turn up and pay a tenner per bike. It’s a bit flat, but a good place to start.
I think it’s here:

There are lists of motocross tracks here:

and here:

If you get a motocross bike, you will not be able to ride it on the road or on green lanes (which are just roads without tarmac), so you will need to have transport for the bike, to and from the track.

Your best bet for more expert advice and access to a track is to join a club that runs motocross events, such as Sidcup:
http://www.sidcupmotorcycleclub.co.uk/
who have their own motocross track, Canada Heights, near Swanley. They can also give you better advice on what bike to but. I know more about trail bikes and road legal enduro bikes, as I’m more into green laning, trials, rallies and enduros.

Duncan

Yeah, the bike i pointed to isnt large… but it is suitable for adults and very cheap i’d already got out the tape measure and got a good mental image of its size and it should be ok for me (for a while anyway).

thanks a LOT btw, you’ve been a lot of help, i’ve been searching the internet for days without much luck.

http://www.mxtrax.co.uk/ is a good resource to find your closest track. Go to forums/MX UK/Dirt Bike tracks and there is a map of the UK with nearly all proper MX tracks listed.

Cusses Gorse near Salisbury is the best track in the south (in my opinion)!

I’m with Duncan on the bike, if you want to have a proper crack at it you’d be probably better off getting a mid 90’s 125 2 stroke MX bike from one of the main manufacturers (Kawasaki, Honda etc…)

If you fancy watching one of the biggest motocross races in the world this year then you could be in luck as the MX des nations is due to be held near Winchester on the 24th September. At this race the Americans race the rest of the world and it’s the only time in the whole year that you can see it!! It’s basically like a world cup for motocross as it’s country vs country. It will rock
