bugger, gotta pay more attention, only saw this today, and now I’m the babysitter, no chance of poppin in! As they say in ze Farzerland… Scheisse! (beats the LB swear filter every time too, )
Arrived at 11.30 after contemplating whether to go or not… Big clouds were coming and going… but thought sod it… sun came out and headed over…Got to the tea cabin and booked a assessed ride…(1 hr free…bonus)
Got on OK, but 2 points:
a bit close to an oncoming car on 1 occassion… I was test riding a BMW F800R and got a bit carried away looking at the control panel… (tut tut…) However, all else was OK…
also need to use more of the road and look ahead on the twisties…
Then I was thinking about going home and a lady from DUCATI came over and asked whether I wanted to ride one of the ones they had … hmmm… decisions decisions…
WTF… where do I sign I asked…
So gave my details and off I went over to the DUCATI 848 EVO…dribble, dribble, dribble
Gave me a guide to the controls and said we got 1 hour on that with a lead instuctor who said I can open her up when the chance came … I was 3rd in a convoy of 8 bikes and held back on the open straights and…
All I was doing was 2nd gear listening to her…bliss
Hour passed in no time…
Got back to base and fought with the instuctor who asked for the key back…
Anyway did not fancy going to jail for GBH so gave the key back… They lady then came over and offered me the DUCATI Monster 1100 EVO…
What a pile of CRAP… Dunno what is was… just did not seem to do as I expected… This was my 3rd run on the same 1 hour route… so knew the roads a bit more but was naff after riding the 848…
Could not get back quick enough to give the keys back…
Then…the last bike…

…
… My S reg Fazer 600… I was glad to see her but was like … well like getting my head from out of the sky and my feet back on the ground…
So, starting to save up for the 848… dream dream dream dream dream …
Yeah I turned up, went for a ride on a Monster 1100 evo, went back to hand the keys back and they sent me out for a ride on a Hypermotard 796.
The Monster felt lumpy to begin with after riding an IL4 for a couple of years but once I got used to it I was hooked. Once I got back on my Diversion it felt strangely smooth.
Went with my family for a very quick look round the windswept park. My 3 year old liked the Serv bikes. The Panigale looked delicious. Jealous of the riders coming back from the Ducati test rides…good on you Immortal Indian for getting to try three of them out. Yep not many people there at all- remembering the last test ride event at Box Hill when there was a queue for the test rides…so next year if they do this at New Addington again I’ll be going on my own…
