I overtook 3 police bikes this morning going through traffic towards Clapham Common from Dulwich, I made sure I toned my riding down even after they were out of sight (or at least I thought they were out of sight). Then grumpypants at the front, hooned through the traffic, to catch up with me and tell me I was taking the mickey and going the right way about getting a fine for my dark visor.
What I wanted to say was ‘wind your tombstones in you freaky looking goon, we all know you pulled me because you didn’t like the fact I made better progress in the traffic than you’
What I actually said was ‘sorry officer’
So I sat behind them for the rest of my commute and watched as they went around telling off everyone and everything for something and nothing.
I like most bike coppers, but this lot were being a bunch of chumps, one of them actually turned round to tell some mum off for riding her bike whilst crossing the road rather than pushing it. Seriously mate, haven’t you got some f*cking crime to go and fight?
I’ve never seen so many of them these past couple of weeks…
Strange that they were quite happy to chase you down to give them a bollocking, but when there were two construction lorries trying to turn across 5 lanes of traffic this morning with two bike coppers at the front of the queue, they just sat there looking gormless. There was just two blokes running round trying to stop all the cars and cyclists from sneaking though behind a massive lorry that was reversing…
I didn’t think they were allowed to speed when they weren’t showing their emergency lights, clearly I fancied keeping all my cash today so I didn’t query him on it.
I suspect there’s lots of olympic over time knocking about.
Considerably more Police than usual on the streets this morning I noticed, loads of them 4x4 BMWs, Astras and Police bikes - anyone would think there’s a big event about to start or something!
I go past or through a mob of them every morning by the police college and they’re usually ok. I’m all in favour of more police bikes out there if it stops drivers bloody texting all the time and after all he could’ve but didn’t nick you for your visor.
Can’t blame em for being chumps and not putting the boot in TBH in frustration.
Here you have some of the best weather this year where they could have been on a day off enjoying the sun, looking at peaches on the beech, but some suit has them stuck in hot gear sweating their balls off for toffee nosed hurrah henrys running some cooperate money wheeze.
Or, looked at another way, you were riding in a way that you admit needed ‘toning down’ and overtook three coppers. Unsurprisingly, seeing you do this, one of them did what he is paid for and caught up with you for a word and, even though you were using an illegal visor, he used his discretion and let you off.
Don’t forget its coppers who see the consequences of crap riding/driving and know the value of letting people know when they are getting a bit over eager.
its el scorchio out there and not a cloud in the sky, i have zero respect for a copper whinging about dark visors in these conditions
sounds like the polar opposite of the bike cops i saw today escorting the flame about town, they were having a laugh with the crowd
Jim, my point was I did nothing wrong, i saw 36 on my speedo at one point in an overtake but otherwise cruised at the limit. I wasn’t riding dangerously, speeding, crossing solid white lines… nothing. As for the dark visor, if I get fined for it, I get fined for it. I feel safer using one in this weather and carry a clear visor with me just in case I get caught out. There’s nothing illegal on the bike, no race can, no small plate etc.
I only went past the bikes as they picked the slower moving lane at a set of lights. A scooter rider following me asked what I’d been pulled for at the next set of lights and he was shocked too. We then witnessed them stop the mum crossing the road, pull a scooter for going up the inside of a car at some lights (and then proceeded to go up the inside of a load of cars in a cycle lane at the next set of lights themselves). They were being dicks and they knew it.
We had the flame pass by on Saturday and the biker escorts were the highlight for my kids, they both got high 5’s from a couple of them.
I only overtake the bike cops if they obviously give me room to do so… Otherwise, I’d be speeding when I overtake them, and some of them might see that as taking the piss…
End of the day, all you got was a talking to, so no worries…
