Snowboarders....

Anyone know of a good place to snowboarding for a week, early April thats cheap?

After all this skiing with work i really want to get away on my board but cant afford anything that amazing as im spending a bomb on skydiving in spain at the end of feb.

You’ll need to be looking at someplace pretty high at that time of year, although if you wait until the last moment there may be some late snow.

Val Thorens is pretty souless but@ 2700m does have alritude on it’s side

Also, First week in April this year is Easter holidays, so will be peak prices in most of the Alps.

Andorra is a cheap place to go, but I wouldn’t chance it that late in the season.

Patagonia and Tierra Del Fuego.

Easter weekend is Friday 29th March to Monday 1st April
Winter school holidays in France finish 17th March and Spring holidays start 17th April

Best time to go would is between all of that although Easter won’t be too busy as it’s not typically a “skiing holiday” in France

re: snow, you’d be better off going in March if you can so between 17th and 29th March
re: cheap prices you should be able to find something reasonable in March, it’s end of season

Tignes is really high, has it’s own glacier and so always has good snow and because it is the poor neighbour to Val D’Isere (which it is linked to) you can get some good cheapy deals - best website is here: http://www.igluski.com/searchresults?sort=3.

Andora is cheap, but only good for beginners/ nervous types, so not for you!

La Plagne is usually cheap, but not as snow sure that late in the season.

My advice, if you want really cheap - wait til the week before, follow the snow and get a last minute deal

as mentioned above Tignes is a safe bet…I go pretty much every year and last year went the last weekend it was open around 21st April. Also I personally think its better than Val de’Isere, with better runs and the snow park is a lot better.

The snow was amazing and it was warm and empty! when I mean empty…the whole day we saw about 50 people!

you can book a package or do it yourself which is what I normally do.

Book a flight to Geneva then get Altibus or rent a car to get to Tignes and booked a apartment there for cheap.

Total cost was about £280 for a week excluding ski pass

Les Arc which is other side of the valley is also pretty dam good and has snow till very late

Cheers guys. Id love to go earlier but i cant get the time.

Im away skiing with work at the moment and then in about 3 weeks im away skydiving and then about the 24th march im doing a 26 mile walk in wales with the dogs in prep for one i hope to do in May with 26kg on my back all for charity.

Got a busy few months. Should have the first week of april off for easter leave but im not 100% yet, but basically what ever week i get off is the week i plan on going with the missus.

What makes you think im not the nervous type?

I’ll be going with the missus and she is a beginner, im no expert but want somewhere i can have a good play ofcourse and push myself abit. Actually id say ive only had about 2-3 weeks on the real snow and only 1 week of that was a solid week.

Tignes and Les Arc will push you to the limits…there are red runs black runs and techincal chutes if you so desire.

Did a cliff jump in Tignes last year and thought I was going to die! wont do that again

Another vote for Tignes, though I did knock myself out there a few years ago while smiling at a girl - caught an edge while going past at speed… doh!!

My sister in law is just back from Tignes a week ago - I think she said it was -20 degrees or something similar so I guess the snow isn’t about to melt immediately up there!

Looked amazing in the photos.

As said above, wait till last minute and see where the snow is best.

A couple of years ago, we blagged a deal to verbier like that. It was less than 500 per person, flights and catered challet all in, and had the best snow ever. Verbier is a bit naff and full of posh British tests, but you don’t meet them off-piste, so no problem, and any resort in les 4 Valdes is good. The area is the best I’ve been to .

Cheers guys. It will be a last minute thing, dont even know my leave dates yet.

Ive been Tignes before, never had any fresh dumps of snow but what was there was okay. Wont be going that far off piste, depends on how the missus gets on. Did the Indiana Jones run in tignes, not sure if thats what everyone calls it or just the guys i was with, but that was a good crack.

April is a bit late to be sure of decent snow except somewhere nice and high like the Alps. Could get a last minute special deal if the conditions are OK

I have a reputation? Now i feel special, ha ha…

Do some searching on deals in Tignes me thinks. Help if i knew when i can actually go but i get get some rough ideas for now.

Cheers all

…are knobbers that ruin the snow for everyone else…

I quite agree which is why i need to make up for it with a snowboarding holiday

No snow left in Germany then?

If your looking for cheap, have a look at Bourg St Maurice. The Eurostar runs direct to there and is linked by a funicular to Les Arcs, so your on the mountain in 15 mins but accomodation is cheaper as you’re down in the Valley.

Also google Austria Super Ski they do some very cheap deals to various resorts in Austria.
