Following on from Jays trackday reviews, i thought id copy him.
Went up to Snetterton for an evening last week (8/8/24). I knew a couple of people going to the roadbike only day during the day, but my CBR has slicks on at the moment, so that wasn’t an option for me.
Plan was to arrive lunchtime and hang about till my track time stated at 530, though i ended up not getting there till 330, halfway through their penultimate session. At this point, there had been 0 red flags that day, unfortunately this changed in the last session, the rider looked ok but not someone i knew.
All day had amazing weather, until I arrived when it started trying to rain (possibly the reason for someone having an off in the last session of the day). Got my bike noise tested (96db, the same bike was 103 at Cadwell a few weeks ago).
Found my fairing had (another) crack forming, hot staples are a great way to fix these (though are not pretty). The studs got trimmed off post photo.
Thought I was ready to go for the first session and sighting laps, though the rain was making me nervous. As they call for us to assemble in the pits, I realize I’ve forgotten the brake leaver guard, and can’t go out without it. Quick visit to the osite shop and £40 later, i have a new leaver guard, and with my selection of bolts and spacers managed to fit it.
First session was terrible, it was still trying to rain, and i was on slicks. I did the sighting laps and came back in. it wasnt very wet at this point, but i had zero confidance, and wasnt enjoying it.
2nd Session was much better. The rain has passed and the wind made the little water on the track dry quickly. I rapidly remebered why i like snetterton so much.
3rd was even better, main issue im having now is running out of lean angle. Theres a couple of corners that im wanting to go in tighter but the footpegs are on the floor. Annoyingly I had ordered rearsets to help with this, but they are taking a while to come from italy. apparently im leaving sparks, which im taking as a compliment.
4th session was going nicely untill i got black flagged. then a lap of me wondering if i have done something wrong as i make my way back to the pits. One of the marshalls thought they saw something hanging off the bike so called me in. They couldnt find anything in the pits so I was sent out again, though only time for more lap.
In all, I had a great evening. It cost £60 for 4 20 min sessions, so not excatly cheap but about half the cost of a full day (which is 7 sessions).
