OK so I’ve finally going to upgrade from a clear to a tinted visor - but I have a choice of black or silver (for daylight use obviously). There isn’t a blue btw.
Which is the best, advantages/disadvantages/most badass :smooooth:?
Any problems riding on the continent with one?
Might as well make this a poll so ppl have voter fatigue…
In the 29 years I’ve been riding on the road, I’ve never been stopped or questioned in relation to wearing a black visor. I always carry a clear spare for night time though.
With regard to continental riding, no problems so far. In fact have only positive stories to tell about the gendarmes’ ‘unofficial’ approval of our riding styles.
Can’t comment on the Swiss though, but I’ve heard they’re real feckers.
From what I have heard the silver/iridium/coated visors don’t last long, they get chipped real easy and the stuff they stick on the visor to make it mirror/silver etc doesn’t really last that long.
Dark visor but carry a clear one (when you remember!!) the other alternative is to have a clear visor that accepts “tear off strips” and then buy dark tear offs. i used to have an OGK lid a few years ago and did this, saves on carrying a spare visor about with you and you can wash the tear offs and re use them if you wanted to.
Might be worth buying a visor bag that straps round your waist that you can wear under a jacket to store your spare visor in, not that expensive but very useful.
I have a silver iridium visor which looks black/dark except in bright sunshine when it looks like a dark mirror . . . . it’s neither silver or black. Looks nice I think. Lasts well, I buy a new visor each year anyway.
I had an Iridium on a Shoei a few years back, one of those caracoat ones. Looked the dogs in the sunshine, but I noticed really quickly that the coating started to chip.
The worst was in the rain when wiping the visor with a finger. Just started coming off and within a year it looked a mess. The funny thing with them is you only see the chipped coating from the outside. Inside it still looked like a normal tint with no bits missing.
It’s the high route into Andorra over the Pyrenees from France in May. There is a tunnel but it’s cold and wet and the top route is much more fun. Bit chilly
