Silly Christmas Traditions

Do you have any silly Christmas Traditions that you keep going year after year?

My one is amongst a group of mates, one of us was given an album years ago called.

Permission to Sing by Clive Dunn (Corpral Jones of Dad’s Army fame)

Every Christmas, this delight is lovingly wrapped up and left under the next recipients tree. I recon it must be about my turn again:w00t:

Can’t wait to hear tracks like “Polishing my Rifle and Chip-Chopper Charlie” again…lol:P:D

Do you do silly stuff like that every year?

If all the family are around then the usual round of Girls vs Boy at Trivial Pursuits, Pictionary or any other number of board games.

Isn’t Christmas one big repetitive pain in the arse - stupid tradition? The pressures of families fighting over who goes where and who’s got what. I’d rather **** off and miss the lot. Besides does anyone really know why christmas is celebrated?

Oh and bah humbug

I’ve always thought it was a nice coincidence that Jesus was born at Christmas;):P:D

mine is doing sweet FA. I get up open my pressie, then sit down, drink JD or beer all day and refuse to do anything!!

He wasn’t that is the scary thing!

Oh boy - if we were on OI you’d hear a massive alarm right about know. There is no proof that he actually existed, and if he did his birth was believed to be in September. The celebration is actually for ‘Yule’ the winter solstice, a Pagan festival of the rebirth of light, but when christianity was forced upon the Britons they simply changed the birth of Jesus to fit in with Yule, and then destroyed most of the Pagon writings and assimilated the British Isles in to the christian way of thinking.

Double Bah Humbug! :stuck_out_tongue:

Jesus who???:w00t::smiley:

hmm I think there is more evidence for teh exisitence of Jesus than for the existence of Caeser…whether he was the son of god is another matter…

Depends on your opinion of the validation of the evidence.

It’s no wonder there wasn’t any room in Bethlehem for Mary & Joseph, what were they thinking of? They should have booked ahead what with it being christmas and everything:D

Jesus was a jewish revolutionary who got executed by the Romans for trying to start a rebellion against their rule in Palestine - he was probably the ancient equivalent of Che Guevara in that area I doubt he had any plans for starting a new religion - he just wanted to shake up the existing Jewish establishment and implement Jewish home rule - the memory of this charismatic rebel leader was hijacked by guys like Saul (the apostle Paul) who used it to start a new religion - Christianity - which was designed specifically to appeal throughout the Roman empire by combining Jewish old testament theology with Romano/Greek attitudes to religion - via the new testament (which was written largely by Paul) - this meant charachterising God as embodied in human form as Jesus Christ - Romans and Greeks found this an easy and appealing religious concept as they were already worshipping gods in human form - e.g. statues of Zeus and Apollo etc. - and they were more likely to convert than if presented with the more abstract/ascetic Jewish idea of God - in this sense Judaism mkII (Christianity) could be said to have conquered the Roman empire and established the Judaeo-Christian civilisation which has underpinned europe since medieval times. All of the above means that I have to wear a stupid hat on Christmas day.

p.s. sorry if my view offended any Christians on here - I tend to look at religion from a historical/anthropological viewpoint.

But there was no real evidence that ‘Jesus’ really existed, another school of thought was that there were 5 to 20 different types of Jesus characters that were melted together to create the story.

That’s more than likely El Diablo - but you can see the gist of where I’m coming from e.g. it’s interesting to see how religions start - or if you want to be harsh - are manufactured.

But there is a father Christmas … right ??? :D:D

Im not affended, all i do is eat to much, fart alot and blame the dog.
