Well I bought this helmet back in June last year to replace my xr1000. The improvements in all areas are a nice welcome. Ive done about 5,000 miles with this helmet and it’s held up nicely with the odd clean on the outside and with this model you can remove all of the lining and stick it in the washing machine (30c in a pillow case) its like a new helmet each week love it.
I switch between a black and a clear visor which is really easy on this helmet unlike previous models which could be fiddley. I bought the breath guard as I don’t use a pinlock visor it’s just personal preference.
I bought mine at the NEC 2010 and have used it in prefference to my Arai RX7GP on the road as the visibility is much better. I would say that the actual shell size is larger than the Arai so may not suit certain people.
I use a pinlock and the guard just because i’m paranoid about misting up.
It is much lighter than the Arai and feels so when worn.
I have probably travelled over 12000 miles since i bought it and it is still in tip top condition.
Well worth the money and a look at next time your thinking of changing your lid.
It is a great helmet… I did about 15K miles on the old one before I dropped it and hit it against the tarmac. Great visibility, great vents in the summer, love the replaceable linings (new helmet indeed). Not sure how it compares on noise/ weight with others as it’s been the only helmet I’ve ever had… but I don’t see an issue with either of these points…
Got a new one but this one has not been as fault free… The bottom right lining had a small tear in the hinge part of it meaning it would not lock in place (not really an issue) and a bit of plastic from the visor hinge broke. It still works fine but feels odd when you move it from the different locking positions.
Also I f*cked up getting the pinlock in but that’s user error! :Wow::Whistling:
Another thumbs up for the XR-1100 from me. Excellent vents - all you need is the chin vent open to stop glasses misting up when moving, and the pinlock at higher speeds. Open all the vents up in summer and it’s like having the air-conditioning on!
I actually think the visor changing mechanism is more fiddly than the old XR-1000 but it is still good. It has nice big ear cutaways for your autocom speakers and the removeable, washable lining is fabulous.
got mine at Excel this year. the new breath guard now comes as a hard rubber on (ahem) which is much better than the flimsy one pictured (and that I had on my XR1000).
the visor mechanism was marginally easier to switch visors on the XR1000 IMHO. the xr1100 has a much better visor but you do have to locate the hooks a bit more precisely. Field of vision is much wider as the pin lock covers a greater area - believe this is partly due to the new retraction mechanism for a better seal.
The venting is much improved, and the vents themselves I’d say are better than the xspirit ii I had as they look much more durable (the slider broke on the xspirit)
Haven’t tried it yet but apparently the lining is now fully removable unlike the xr1000
It sure is ALL removeable, doesnt have to be washing machine washed either, you can submerge the whole helmet in water without damaging it, or lay a towel down in the bath, put lid topside down and use a shower head and baby shampoo to clean it.
XS 2 has a wider apature, but then it will do as its race lid really, the XR11 has same almost 120 degrees i think.
I actually prefer my XR1000 but have used both a lot.
The XR1100 seems to have loosened off quite a lot but the nice Shoei guys sorted it for me at Brands last year.
I find the chin vent on the XR1100 directs air directly into my eyes so I cant use it unless I am riding in town at slow speeds.
And one of vents on the top broke off because they are stiff and a pain to open and close when you are riding (even after they have been lubed) but I got a pack of replacement vent covers.
I agree with JB. The visor is slightly harder to change on the XR1100 but its not really an issue.
I’m tempted to try out the new x-spirit 2 but dont really need a new helmet…yet
