Shinya Kimura video: Building bikes from the soul

Legendary Japanese bike builder Shinya Kimura has just released this incredibly beautiful and emotive video about his passion for bike building.Shot in and around his Chabott Engineering workshop in California, Shinya tells the story of his background and reveals the creative methods he uses to build his one-off creations.

Ok I’m sold…
I’m also selling the wife, the kids, the house, and everything else I own so I can afford one…

DID YOU HEAR THAT ENGINE… and the soundie and camera work were genius too!

Yes - a really beautiful film isn’t it!

As you say - the evident craft in the photography and sound design/editing really compliments the craft on show in this guys workshop and bikes.

Nice colour grading too - really emphasises the sense of oil and metal, while the lighting reinforces the close and intimate atmosphere of an artisans workshop.

Pretentious - moi!

loved it!!

That isn’t a “YouTube video”… that is the kind of thing TV SHOULD be… farkin X-Factor, and god knows what that GUy Ritchie comes up with, Hollywood dross and game shows…

NOTHING in the face of that… what was it a 2 minute short, and EVERY shot, was Magnificent… light, sound, focus, position, interest, feeling, heart… I am in AWE!

Yep - no respect for craft these days - and attention spans have shrunk to about two milliseconds.

Nice, worth a tweet

Just bumpin this cos I can and its worth it…
MMMM…DREAM BIKE, JOB, LIFESTYLE!

Cheers for that, funny listening to that after 6 months of learning Japanese, as I actually understood about 10% or every 10th word, which meant I didn’t have a clue what was going on without the subtitles, but still odd to hear a person speaking a foreign language and being able to understand some of it!

That bike he was riding was mental too, I love the fact that it was only about an inch wide across the tank and tail piece and it looked like a single piece, octaganal section, seperated by a seat. Not sure I would have got on it with those flames coming out the side next to my legs.

+1. I saw this when NJ first posted it but didn’t have time to comment as I was watching it over breakfast and had to rush to get to work. Now I’m in my first week of a 5-week break so I have more time to comment

This is a great video, as has been pointed out, and I hope whoever made it will make many more like it.

Missed this first time round- nice film but can’t believe the guys never flown- or does he mean literally?
