She better get a big sentence for this

This is just appauling! according to this girl who killed someone whilst on her phone it is alright to use it in the right condition…

albeit she was doing 70mph on a motorway!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7790336.stm

unbelievable… if it aint the phone its make up. And to think Ive just had the mother of all lectures about riding a motocycle… FROM MY SISTER!!

I saw that report as well. It’s quite a common view from the people I stopped. One person once told me that it can’t be dangerous because they let people with one arm drive…

I did point out that they were in an adapted car, and their concentration wasn’t distracted by the phone conversation

I also used to like the defence they used along the lines of “Well I know it’s illegal, but it doesn’t affect my observation or concentration”…

OH YEAH, HOW COME YOU DIDN’T NOTICE ME IN THE BIG POLICE CAR WITH BLUE LIGHTS AND HIGH VIZ STRIPES ON THE BLOODY THING THEN!

sorry johnse1 I had to laugh at this one, even though your spot on it is quite comically put.

for me there is just no excuse whatsoever, I know I’m not the only one on here, but int he last week I have had near misses by 2 cars all on the phone.

Hope she does get a rather long sentence rather that the ASBO she is likely to be handed by the judiciary.

Grant the police the power to confiscate phones as well as issue points and fines. That would start getting the message across.

I’d love to see a hotline where you can take a pic of drivers on mobiles, sms it to plod and get 50% of the fine as a reward:D

I bet it would make them think twice about it then;)

So long as you don’t use your mobile whilst driving to take their pic…could end up very confusing…

Perhaps she should do a year working as a carer for people who have been left badly injured as the result of morons like herself.

That’s a point… is there a law preventing photography at the wheel?;):D:D

Scum, what total scum. She’s not even repentant for killing someone. I hate morons like that. I hope they give her life.

Sadly the maximum for death by dangerous is 10 years. Assuming she’s got no unspent previous, or recent driving conviction she’s unlikely to get more than 4 years (and that’s very optimistic) so She’ll be out in 18 months, on a tag for 6 months then on licence for the rest of her sentence…

F,king dim witted moreron.

+1

We need to see vehicle manufacturers getting in on the act here, cause people are too selfish/thick/arrogant to do it themselves. A simple mobile blocker unit that activates when the ignition is running. Yes, it would inconvenience passengers but tough.

A very good friend of mine was knocked down in Dec 2005 as she crossed a pedestrian crossing. The driver was texting. She’s still in and out of hospital for ops and will never regain her sense of smell nor right eye.

Disagree very strongly. What we need is less nanny state ******** and for people to stop being so selfish and stupid.

What would your plans be to achieve that then?

sorry boys but this is just silly, she isnt scum, she is being honest and she clearly did not text whilst drinving thinking she wsa going to kill someone…

I do believe that she is right, you can use the phone under quite a lot of circumstances without endagering other road users. millions of people do it all the time, its no good denying that fact as it is totally true…It may be an accident waiting to happen but isnt that the same for many actions that we indulge in, like smoking, drinking, eating, etc etc…whilst driving, and there are laws about driving without due care and attention etc that cover virtually everything from picking your nose to taking a phot whilst driving…

I know there have been a few deaths, like 6 or 7 each year where phone usage is deemed the cause but it seems the act of being on the phone is instantly the cause. Not sure I totally believe that but this is a sad accident, she didnt mean to do it and I am sure she is repentant, I read nothing in the text that would indicate she was not…

Jail for any time is hell and will ruin someones life, what is the point of that…another life ruined for what good purpose…and ultimately for what reason…she had an accident, avoidable yes, but an accident all the same…she didnt intend to kill, as do most of the millions who use their phone in the car, and didnt think she would kill…jail is not the right place for her at all…

I’d start with a neutering programme for people who want knee jerk pointless laws brought in to protect the bemused and bewildered.

As a bonus this would allow natural selection to catch up with those too stupid to exist.

"She also told the court she could send and receive messages without taking her eyes off the road. "If she still thinks that, I reckon she will do it again.

I read that and wondered what the prosecution’s response was…

She doesn’t sound like the sharpest tool in the box.
