Firstly, hello again. I have been a fair weather forum user and seeing as I only really just started biking end of last year, I’m not well known round here.
Secondly, I’m not proud of having just been done for speeding, I have a clean licence and in my 14 years of driving have never been done for speeding either.
Today on M1 I was zapped by a copper with his laser from a bridge doing 101mph (which still amazes me as I admit to doing 90 on regular occasion, it is very uncomfortable to do over that on my Ducati Monster 620 as there’s no fairing etc).
Copper pulled me over further down the motorway and showed me lazer gun reading. Filled in forms and said that the form now goes to police station and they either deiced to act on it in which case there will be a court summons (because of the speed I was doing) or there will be no further action (which I can’t believe is very likely).
As I have never been through anything like this before, I was wondering if anybody had any advice or experience they could pass on to me?
Feeling a bit rubbish as can’t believe I managed to get clocked at that speed? I’ve always been so careful. Grrrr.
Well, you are looking at a ban so try to delay your court apperance to the end of the season
Then pray that you get away with 4 months and not 12
As u don’t bike in winter you r sorted
Alternatively, don’t get pulled
hi may not get a ban’i never 101 m.p.h.on the a47 got 6 points and a 210 pound fine,i was vey lucky.if you go to court u must have a reason for doing the speed, they will ask u.make up something.dress smart, not to over the top,no attitude,no skin heads e.t.c.stutter when u talk<makes them think you a bit scared> and be very very remourseful coz u never ride like this normally,u would be able to work .i got coached by my m8 who is a magistrate,he told me they only have a few minutes to figure out if your are a twat, first impression and all that.if u give them **** they will hammer u.101 m.p.h. may get a fine,if a ban it would be 28 days depends how they feel, there only shop keepers after all, hope this helps.
Thanks guys, good advice. It’s funny, having honestly driven carefully for last 14 years, I’ve never had to think about what I’d do in this situation. I lost my sister in a car crash and very nearly my mother and so am really really careful about my driving/riding. I wish there was a way I could really find out if I did do 101 mph as I just don’t do that speed. Regardless, I figure now it is a bit of a game of how to work the system for the best outcome. I accept that I am guilty for breaking the law, but I’d really like to try and minimize the damage as much as possible.
What kind of excuse stands up well in court though? Work related? What did you say if you don’t mind me asking?
Thanks again for all this, such a bummer so early in the year. I did ask for it though so not looking for any sympathy!
dont swet it. If you get summonsed hold your hand up and admit it…be polite (begging doesnt hurt). Point out your history. Failling that ride as much as you can till it gets taken away. Oh and next time…keep a weather eye out I got flashed on the M25 doing “about” your speed and it was the worst two week wait of my life bar none!!! But nothing happened so I count my good fortunes and thank my lucky’s.
You could do worse than check out pepipoo.com. I got flashed for doing 37 in a 30 only 5 days after passing my DAS, having had a totally clean (but not innocent) 20 years in a car. Did lots of reading and took some advice from that site and still have a clean licence. The few minutes it takes you to look won’t cost you much but could help a lot, particularly considering what’s at risk.
i cant see how this can be legal as showing you a reading from a lazer gun futher down the road could mean its from any veichle, surely there has to be video evidence to back this up like following you for a mile or something…
Lazer Guns aren’t exactly reliable or accurate hence why the Office said nothing may come of it. Chances are you’ll be looking at a ban of 28 days, 3 points, maybe more and a nice fine.
Take it on the chin as a learning curve and if you go to court, admit your fault and apologise a lot.
Thanks again for the advice. I think the best thing to do is to wait and see if anything drops through the letter box and then get a solicitor involved.
I wouldnt waste the money on a solicitor - when I was caught doing 105mph on the M20 I was just given a 14 day ban and a £200 fine. Done my own research, dressed smartly, acted remorsefully, didnt argue
I’m starting to think this is the way to go. Can I also thank the guys who have been PM’ing me with help and advice. Truly great feeling that people take the time to actually help you out. I’m just sorry it’s due to my foolish speeding, not something a bit more worthy!
From my experience i definitely would not get a solicitor involved. i was caught doing 82 in a 40 and got 4months ban and £400 fine. I did all the paperwork and presented it to the solicitor who read it out in court. I could have presented it better than he did. To add to this his bill was £1200.
101 in a 70 is not as serious and I would definitely represent myself and put your own story across.
Good advice so far. Got done for 104 on M40. Spoke to my brief who said don’t waste money on me, put it toward your fine. Faced a ban, but argued hardship on job front so got a £535 fine plus 6 points. Best of luck mate.
