I’ve had a scottoiler on each bike I’ve had. Just nip into Hein Gericke and get some Scottoiler oil for about £6, top it up, prime it and then set it to about 2 drips per minute… If you catch me at BMM tomorrow (if I go) I’ll give you a hand. Straight forward to use and they keep a chain in good nick. I increase the drip rate for winter riding as there is a lot more crap on the roads, salt grit etc… www.scottoiler.com is a good place to start though.
kool cheers dude, looked at teh site…way to much jargon for me…dont really understand it?.if you or someone could show me how to fill it back up and Prime it that would be great.
so the settings are for the rate of how much it lubes the chain, 1 being low -6 being high.
i get that, just need to know how to fil it up and prime it? might even take it off? seems easier to pop it on a paddock stand and lube with a can of chain lube!
Bring the oil tonight and I’ll help you set it up. Easy peasy and you don’t have to clean the chain and relube it every two weeks. I do it every couple of months when I give the bike a good clean - paraffin + toothbrush + rags = clean chain and rear end of bike. 6 is for priming and you’ll end up running it on around 1-2 depending what sort of riding you do.
Fill up the reservoir with scottoil, run the engine at tickover with the adjustment set past 6 (prime) till oil drips out onto the chain. I run mine at about 2-5 depending on how wet it is, it’s abit dependant on what angle the reservoir is setup.
It’s ALOT easier than manual oiling. The chain on my bike looks perfectly clean and the rollers are all free and well lubed. I’ve not oiled or cleaned it once since fitting a scottoiler (10k)!!
