Scoot/Trail or Hack?

Have now moved far enough away from work I need to ride in each day rather than walk…(journey is West Ken to Selfridges)

But…I dont really fancy knackering up my thundercats chain, tyres, forks, etc each day, but rather keep that for weekends…

So I have to get an extra. I have prob about 500-800 to spend, and have seen on ebay a few of those cheapo chinese bikes, 125 scooters from 600 :

and a 200 trailie from 800.

Question is: what do I plump for?

Scoot is manoverable, bounceable and very low maintenance, but every chav wants to nick one, and it aint a proper bike…

trailie is tall for car wing mirrors, a bit more torque, but probably made of cheese at that price…

An old hack, 400/500 or sommit, better spares and bit more power for the cash?

i thought a thundercat was a cheap hack !

just kidding mate but to be honest cat parts are not that much and if you look after your chain it will last a long time…

How many miles is it to work and back? 5? so thats 10 miles a day?

shouldnt realy cost you the earth in running costs and them thundercats are tuff as ol boots!

500 to 800 notes should last you at least 3 years in Serviceable Parts…

Hehe you lot must be on a lot more money than me!!!

But to be honest with you, did kind of think what you said this morning, was nice to have the power to pull away from the lights and with the extra costs, probably would keep me in serviceable parts…

Ive been looking at these as well, as ive now sold my car and dont like leaving the buell parked up in the gehteo .

Have a look at -

http://www.chinariders.net/ & http://www.chinesescooterclub.co.uk/forum.htm

From what ive read they are better than buying a 15 year old honda or whatever you can get for the same money, but you need to be a bit hands on and go though it and change the oil, greese and locktite everything before you start to use it.

Chinese scoots!!

Don’t do it - they are really poor quality, no service back up, know someone who reegretted buying one after only 3 months - rear shock connection snapped!!

Better going for a older reliable machine - the Honda C90!

It rocks!!

Gotta agree with that - just don’t get one that came from a Pizza company ( check for the big box on the back )

Otherwise they go on and on and on and on and on

Thanks for all the advice guys, think I’ll stick with the 'cat for the moment, then once I have sorted my finances (divorce settlement, etc) and find out how much money I dont have, then I might sell the cat and get a scratcher/commuter combo after that.

Oh and a C90?..no.
