The Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the RAF Red Arrows as Unsuitable for the 2012 Olympics because they are too British.
This is a ridiculous decision and should be overturned in the name of common sense.

I can’t believe that 280,536 people were stupid enough to sign up to that, especially when exceptionally the petition page carries a statement (and has done since 2007) that the basis of the petition is false. I Despair!

I can’t believe that 280,536 people were stupid enough to sign up to that, especially when exceptionally the petition page carries a statement (and has done since 2007) that the basis of the petition is false. I Despair!

I think I will just sit and be quiet now! I didn’t even do any research into this one - I though that seeing as so many had done the biz, its got to be reasonably genuine! Maybe not?!
Whatever issues I may have are not really relevant are they? The fact is over a quarter of a million people signed a petition on an issue that none of them researched or understood and that all the relevant parties, including the Red Arrows, DCMS and the 2012 organisers immediately published statements refuting the rumour. No doubt these will be the same people who will complain that politicians never take any notice of the public and that politicians hold the public in contempt. Is it any wonder?

well in my opinion they are relevant if you sprout off at people posting a genuine, if misguided, comment on a forum
i doubt you would respond to someones comment in such a fashion if they were directly in front of you rather than separated by the net
if you did, those in the conversation would probably be looking at each other with a knowing look

I’m sure Gazza researches the articles he writes/press releases he posts much more thoroughly. At least I hope so!
All these online petitions do is undermine the public voice. Genuine support for important issues is lost in a sea of “Eurocrats want to…”, “Ken is demanding…”, “Why can’t my bulldog…?”, “My greatgrandad didn’t take a bayonet in the arm for Tony Blair to ban bendy bananas” rubbish.
Unfortunately, we get the politicians we deserve.
