Sat Nav

My mum has asked me to pickup a Sat Nav for the old man as after using mine for a week he wants one, and as it is his birthday next week my mum thought she’d treat him.

so here is the question.

I have £150. what do you think is the best one on the market for this?

I ask as I have one of the original TomToms and when I got it there was only Garmin and TomTom and garmin were a little behind the times then…

so any ideas?

www.amazon.co.uk for the Garmin Nuvi 250 £82.50 delivered (using free delivery). UK/IRE + Europe maps. Bought one last week and it works a treat. My brother has one too and uses his across Europe with no problems at all. Well worth it and nice a clear.

I bought a TomTom one version 3 UK and Europe with speed camera - about £120. UK only about £90Brilliant in UK and Europe - I have tried and tested it!

+1 for TomTom One EuropeIt’s all soft and fluffy like a fluffy bunny rabbit;)

It’s easy to use as well. My father has almost got to grips with it, and he is 73, and yes he still drive!:w00t:

I’m a TomTom fan…

TomTom Rider for the bike and a TomTom XL Europe that I use in the car and work lorry. The TT XL’s got a nice big screen and is very straight forward to use.

We have a Garmin for the car and it’s great.

Want something for the bike and bicycle too now, could do with something that will work on both really. Would like a Garmin 705 as it’s great for training but not sure if it will handle the motorbike.

great help thanks I was looking at the TT XL and this was short listed so think I’ll probably go for this as the TT1 looks like it has exactly the same features but with a bigger screen.

I bought my dad the basic Tom Tom 1 from Halfords for his bday, he loves it - doesnt have euro maps or anything though. I think it was £99 and that included a carry case etc.

Get yourself that 02 pda (being 02 contract phone it will not be locked) thats for sale on this forum. its got tomtom mobile which is what ive used on the bike. bloody brilliant!and only £50, can use it as a mobile phone too

got the tomtom 730 myself more exspensive but works great on bike

I get on very well with my tomtom one, use it all over europe. The XL is basically the same thing but bigger but I find it a bit obtrusive in the windscreen myself.

Also, I find it worthwhile to pay the 20 quid a year to keep the speed cameras updated, just hook it up to the computer once a month or so and its done.

If he is not used to any particular operating system I dont suppose it really makes much difference, just study specs and compare, but for me its Nokia for Phones, Tomtom for nav and twins for bikes. My bike is a 4 mind, so what do I know.

I think Halfords have a sat nav sale on right now. Check online to make sure. I dont have a TOM TOM but do use their maps on my PDA. Good stuff.

I love the look of the TT’s but I have a Garmin. I bought that cause I was advised that its the best with the heat reflective Glass that my car is fitted with. I was gonna treat myself to an external aerial for it a lil’while ago. They’re magnetic and my car is all aluminium!

This is £10 over budget and has the TMC lead with it:cool: http://www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products/details/garmin-nuvi-360t-sat-nav/10271/

Or this with the post should be right there!

I have a Garmin Nuvi for the car and the only thing I regret is not getting the motorbike version. It’s really good and easy to use.
The reason why I originally choose garmin over tomtom was battery life. I don’t have a cigarette lighter in the car.
