RV125 12v socket...

okay, i want to put a 12v car charger thingy on my bike it, (not good with technical terms) my bike is a suzuki RV125 (aka vanvan) i have a crocodile clip charger that literally just clips onto the battery, will this drain my battery if i leave it on there all the time? i only ask because to access the battery on my bike involves removing the whole saddle which is bolted on and not locked on.

cheers

I’m not 100% sure but I’d be wary of using a car charger on a bike battery and wait till someone more technically minded tells you if its ok.I fried a battery years ago using a car charger!!

As long as it’s a 12v charger it will do the job.

You won’t drain the battery leaving the clips on but I would screw the wires to the battery that way they stay in place then you can just plug the other end in.

Optimate is the best way forward as they supply the whole kit with charger and detachable lead for quick easy charging

its not an actual Car charger one, ive just managed to forget the name… its literally just 2 crocodile clips with about 3 inches of wire leading to the socket thing…

As the battery is hard to get to once the seat is on my blade I did this mod, works well, just need to solder a male power plug on the charger

ahh nice one

Only use the small plug in type chargers though.

cool, cheers

optimate or similar can be bought cheap on fleabay, hard wire to your battery then just poke the socket end from under your seat works a treat on my 'bird

I used one of these on my van van it has an inline fuse and is constantly attached and does not drain the battery. I cut off the socket and attached a block connecter did the same to two cheap cables from ebay for my devices. That way its small enough to hide under the tank. Hope that helps

Maplins sell the optimate type plugs and sockets, on my Vanvan I have run new wires from the battery to the handlebars and fitted a waterproof female plug, also fitted a sat/nat ram mount, so I can have a permanent live feed for the satnav (you get plenty of time to look at it on a Vanvan.
