Rsv Mille side stand mode

If you own a mille you’ll know about this issue. I was shocked with the side stand the moment I sat on the bike to test ride it and was scared to let go of it when I came back. The stand is straight and very short which means the back wheel comes off of the ground very easily and never gave me any confidence on it staying up.

The cure is to buy a cbr1000rr 06-07 side stand you don’t need the switch or bracket. I found mine in the states for £47 posted which wasn’t bad just shame it was a 13 day wait :frowning:

Old stand on

Take off the mid panels and take the 4 screws out holding the belly pan up then lower it to free up the side stand

Undo the 8mm bolt holding the side stand switch on pull it to one side Leaving it plugged in. Undo the two bolts at the top of the bracket and remove.

Take out the centre bolt holding the stand and bracket together then swap over the top bracket and springs from the rsv stand to the cbr stand. You can see how much longer the Cbr stand is compared to the rsv one.
I did notice the trick to getting the Stand together with the springs was to mount the springs with the centre bolt out then ease the bolt in half way. The should will catch on the stand in the middle so I just used a flat head screw driver to ease it up and the bolt went all the way through no trouble. (If its tight stop your more than likely cross threading it)

Back together mounted and slapped some LM grease on.

The bike now sits more up right but not by much. It’s now very sturdy when standing which I’m very happy with.

Side stand MOD

And wow I can’t edit the rest of that to fix the image problem

The honda firestorm stand also fits and is usually easier/cheaper to find . Just need to drill a hole in it for the switch and adjust the kickdown lever a bit with a brummie screwdriver .

Something to bear in mind when Millie comes my way next year (fingers crossed)

Just need to finalise the divorce with the fazer !!!

Lovely bit of mechanical posting… What a bike forum should be full of but there’s hardly anyone makin any posts about tinkering etc…

Firstly, how short the original stand was is shocking! And secondly, 47 quid for that replacement?!? Oh well it’s sorted now I suppose…

Nice

Silly boy, Aprillia purposefully designed the stand like that so that the wheel would come off the ground, allowing for easy chain maintenance  :stuck_out_tongue:

The stand was £15 but the postage was a lot.

Ha I don’t need the side stand for chain work I have paddock stands

Not a big fan of bodge jobs I’d rather use a direct replacement instead of making stuff fit especially as its my side stand plus I only knew of this mod

Who want’s to deal with fiddly paddock stands when you can have an unstable bike as standard… it’s the italian way!

Ah very true but when it’s about £800 worth of damage if you drop it on the left let alone on the right…

Ahh yeah postage from the US, always a ball ache…

not everyone as the time or know how or can be arsed.

some just get out and ride the wheels of teh damn things!
