Route

Hiya, I am going to Sevenoaks from East London next weekend. Does anybody have any nice routes for getting there? It can’t involve the motorway as I’ll have a learner with me.

Route of all evil

Have you got a postcode in East London? I could throw that stuff in my TomTom and see what comes up.

Or use www.theaa.com

Lol, isn’t that the Blackwall tunnel?

I have done the AA and RAC thing but am not sure if they are ‘nice’ routes. Maybe, it’s best to use them for this first visit though. They both involve the Blackwall tunnel, sigh!

Or do what i do, follow the front wheel. As Paivi will tell you that means that a 15 mile journey can turn into a 3 hour ordeal, but that’s the joy of biking

Charly I need that Tommy Tom Tom!

Charlie, if a man ever needed help with directions, it’s Matt. Please make his case an emergency! For all our sakes. The amount of petrol that guy wastes on a simple trip (yes, we’ve done 15 miles (if that) in three hours…), is disgraceful. Save the planet, Charlie! Get him a TomTom!

Public service announcement:

Go green, buy a Tommy Tom Tom

Not much scope for interesting roads with that journey but I can think of a couple of options:

  1. cross the Dartford bridge then into Dartford and pick up the A225 to Sevenoaks. The bridge should be spectacular but the A225 is a bit ordinary.

  2. Cross the Thames by Blackwall or Rotherhithe tunnel, head for Beckenham then pick up the A214 near Elmers End heading in the direction of West Wickham. Go straight on at every junction until you come to a T-junction at the B269 where you turn left. After a couple of miles turn left at a roundabout onto the B2024 to Westerham where you hit the A25. Turn left onto the A25 which will take you to Sevenoaks.

  3. Same as 2 but stay on the B269 (do a left then right to cross the A25 at Limpsfield and do a left at Crockham Hill) until you get to Four Elms where you turn left onto the B2042 that takes you to Sevenoaks. A bit of a detour but it gets you onto some nice roads.

If you’re not in a rush do the B2042 route great little run, I go to a bike meet every fortnight in riverhead, so know that part well, although most of the best roads around there are going south.

Cheers Mark.

Usaully do route 2 when I have a run to charge the battery moment, but come back via Biggin Hill and keston to Bromley.
