the 5% damage was the broken steering lock.
basically my bike was stolen at surrey quays shopping centre a month ago. I heard nothing for two weeks (getting ready for that insurance cheque), then the police called and said that the bike had been recovered in deptford (about 2 miles from the point of theft).
there are no signs of hotwiring, i have all three keys, so my guess is that this bike was not started for 2 weeks. it was just parked up somewhere when a member of the public reported it to the police, and they collected it.
the bike looks good, and i am reasonably convinced that it was not abused (not started at all). So, back on the road with a big smile.
i now carry a disk lock at ALL times. So…immob, alarm, disk lock…steering lock…that’s about as much as i can do. SCREW the tracker guys (www.tracker.co.uk) for what they did to me (well…they screwed me over to keep it short).
Shall let Roddy reply with what info he wants made public.
But suffice to say it was an incredibly disgusting display of greed/stupidity.
I was incensed enough to give their sales manager a bit of an earful (I was thinking of getting a tracker, till I heard this story).
In any case, does anyone know if the tracker is as backed up by the police as they say it is?
In a slightly different experience, I mentioned datatag protection to some officers/detectives and got a blank stare…
+1I had the bright idea of wanting to get a tracker, until i asked around about how effective they are… and have yet to hear a positive responce… so instead, have brought as many disk locks and chains as i can buy (alarm and immobliser already came with the bike).
I too would be keen to know more about why Tracker was no good. I was immediately put off by their website making no mention at all of motorcycles (as far as I could see).
If you buy a secondhand bike that’s fitted with a Tracker, YOU MUST read the Tracker small print and pay the licence fee otherwise it aint gonna work when you have your P&J nicked.
I remember reading about the tracker at the time, so you didnt pay to take it over when you bought the bike but expected to have the service when you needed it.
A bit like asking your insurance company for cover on the day you had an accident only
So Tracker didnt exactly screw you over by not supplying a service you had previously paid for or subscribed to. Maybe they were tad harsh in your eyes but everyone with a tracker could choose to do the same as you did.
Correct me of I am wrong, but don’t want people put off something that may save their pride and joy
