Hey, bike bike is currently SORN but just had it’s MOT so will be back with me tonight and I’d like to get it taxed. If I tax it online tonight is it legal for me to ride it, even though the disc wouldn’t be delivered to me until next week? Obviously displaying an out of date disc would raise eyebrows if I were to be pulled over but they would have records of me purchasing a new one previously if it were checked, right?

just print out your online receipt and stick it in your wallet - i lost my tax disc, blooming holder fell off, so i’m just carrying around the receipt in my wallet, no probs as of yet
Alrighty, should be okay for a few days. I wouldn’t do it long term though, if I leave it parked up somewhere and they see it’s untaxed I guess they’d take it upon themselves to have it impounded
once you’ve paid, your taxed. if they find you bike without a disk, they check their database and find you are taxed. Even though the offense is for not displaying your disk, they’ll only do anything if your not actually taxed.

I haven’t displayed a valid tax disc for 3 months now.
A few years ago I had several tax discs stolen from the bike, in the end I carried the disc in my pocket. One time drew up next to a police car at the lights they noticed the empty disc holder, I just pointed to my pocket and got a thumbs up.
They are mostly human and generally understanding, at least thats my experience…
