RIP John Martyn

As I’ve just said elsewhere -

So long, John.

During my days as a live sound engineer, our paths crossed several times and it was pretty much always a pleasure. There’s probably nothing better as a soundman than to mix for someone whose music you admire and respect, and that was my privilege with John in places as far apart as Stirling and Tel Aviv.

A couple of these gigs are burned into my memory and they’re remembered with deep affection. “May you never…” be forgot m8.

I assume we are talking about John Martyn as in “London Conversation” and “Stormbringer”?

Only got to see him once in a small club somewhere near Gerrard Street back when there was no China Town.

Good performer and came across as a nice guy. Not bought anything since “The Church with One Bell”.

Always sad to lose someone you have been near too. Sympathy.

Other than the above three, got a single suggestion as the definitive John Martyn?

Never got to see him live but Solid Air is one of my favorite albums. RIP John Martyn.
