RIP Gus Scott

“…was newcomer Gus (Ian) Scott from Kendal in Cumbria, a motor cycle journalist and road tester who had been entered in every solo event this week”

Was truly gutted to hear that Gus Scott was killed in the TT. Ive been reading about him in PB and hes was a great rider and full of guts. Truly a legend. To hear that he leaves a ten year old daughter behind is simply tragic.

My thoughts are with his family.

Keep it pinned Gus.

Richard.

These guys are mad to do it, much respect to them for having the dedication and commitment required to compete at such a tough event. It’s a big loss, losing Gus, he brought me a lot of entertainment, reading about his racing efforts with PB. I was looking over an older PB in my stack here and read about the Macau GP, where he crashed, flew over a barrier and into the sea, nutter.

Its such a shame. I just went and read the last article about competing in the Le Man. He broke his wrist, crashed loads and still went on. An incredible spirit. Most of us would say “sod this” after breaking a wrist. Its a dedicated person to keep going. His articles were a highlight for me, whats he up to next!

Im going to miss that element. A bloody good bloke.

I shall also be thinking of him, a most likeable fellow. Also lost someone else I know in Croix at the weekend, this weekend has realy brought it home but I take some solace from the fact that at least they went doing something that they really enjoyed. May they rest in peace.

Croix is a bit naff, too small and nadgery. It was the guy who runs Carbontek who had the unfortunate accident, whilst racing

shame what happend to gus makes you feel very sad . the tt is a real tought event and you got to have balls of steel very brave men my thoughts go out to the people left behind …

I know this is maybe controversial but it cant be worth it? really. I mean, I love the TT. The whole event is amazing. But people shouldnt die for a race surely? They must be able to improve the safety aspect for these events…lifes to precious to die for a bike.

Then again “Death or glory…”

Only my opinion tho…

gutted to hear about gus scott, first ronnie smith now gus? whats happening in the world?

i had the pleasure of meeting him twice at macau(2003 racing a karl harris cbr600rr and 2004 when he put himself in the sea riding a slingshot racing cbr1000rr) bloody nice bloke but then it always happens to those least deserving eh?

it happens every year yet they still go back for more thinking “it wont happen to me”

i met Gus at a Nurburgring course, he was in my group and was a joy to have around for 3 days telling stories of his travels and the cost of room service in various hotels around the world, mainly the bill for his porn movies.

he was a goodun !

Just reading the report he wrote for Performance Bikes the night before the accident… about the experience he was having at the T.T. How on the boat over to Mann he couldn’t help but wonder “Is this going to be one of those one-way trips?”… I have a real lump in my throat reading this… so tragic…

Just read and re read the same article. I read it once out loud to myself. Funny but i felt that despite the risks involved, the fact he knew the danger, you felt that he felt more alive doing the TT than any other race before. Reading aloud i felt i was there in his helmet following his eyes round the track…a funny thing…

The opening paragraph was especially moving, when he left the boat on the trip over and “wondered if this was going to be a one way trip?”

I was moved.

Keep it pinned Gus.
