Ride4Fun Ride-Out from Dunstable Downs - Saturday 18th August

My first ride-out of the year is finally here. Hoorah!

Sorry about the short notice, but it’s not been easy to predict the weather this year, and it’s not much fun spending the day in the torrential rain.

For all those who like to know what’s in store for the day’s events, below are the details of the route…for all those that don’t, look away now.

Outward route

Return route

BTW The above are subject to change without notice, especially if I forget which way to go.lol

The meeting point will be in the usual car park at Dunstable Downs from 10am onwards, with an estimated departure time of 10:30am. Remember to fill-up your tank and empty your bladder. There will be regular fuel stops for those with minimal tank range…myself included.

NB Unlike some, I don’t keep a register, so if you turn up after 10:30am, and there’s no one there, it means we’ve already gone. If you don’t know where the meeting place is, there are plenty of LBers who do, so it may be easier to come with them, if you can.

As always, the cornerman system will be used. Below is a simple explanation for all those unsure what this entails.

  1. Lead rider (me) heads the group. All you have to do is stay behind and follow.

  2. Tail gunner (any volunteers?) is always at the back to pick up the corner markers…no one in the group should be behind this rider (unless it’s the queue to the bar, of course.lol).

  3. Any rider immediately behind the leader should stop to mark any junction, whether indicated to do so, or if you think it would be helpful to the rest of the group (it’s never wrong to mark a junction), and must wait until the tail gunner arrives, riding off ahead of them. DO NOT move until the tail gunner reaches you, no matter how long you are waiting!

  4. Sometimes the lead rider may have to stop to mark a corner if he has no one to mark a corner for him. If you are the first rider to catch up, stop to take his place until the tail gunner arrives for you.

  5. If there happens to be no corner markers at a junction, assume to follow the road. Sometimes markers aren’t needed if it is obvious.

  6. MOST IMPORTANT: Ride at your own pace within the front and rear riders. The marker system will ensure you know where to go, without having to race to keep up, so you can stay safe.

Look forward to seeing some of the old crowd, and any newcomers that fancy a good ride. Oo-er. :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL…you bugger, as much as we have just mentioned that you havent done a ride, it might be tricky this weekend as the OMC have a barbie on Sat and the brackley motorbike festival is on Sunday. Not sure I can get a two day pass out. :frowning:

No one else had organised one for this day, and it’s the first Saturday I’ve been free when a sunny day has been forecast…there’s just no pleasing some people. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not us if it makes a difference to you but, the OMC barbie is on Sunday

ahh OK, scratch my previous post then!
Good job I didnt turn up with some bugers on Sat then

Ill work on her indoors to get a 2 day pass

Oh, I forgot to mention, that lunch will be in a country pub.

I’m interested in this run. Make hay while the sun shines and all that jazz.

I’m tempted but I have a feeling that my beloved is working tomorrow so I’ll be babysitting.

I’m out but just as a warning to all, it’s set to be VERY hot on saturday.

Yes, that’s a good point…

Ok, everybody, make sure you ride fast so as to keep yourself cool. :hehe:

I like that route nice pubs in Melton or park up in the park over the bridge theres a little snackbar in there

can’t make this as not enough rubber left on tyres to do this and go away next weekend

have fun though

Shame you can’t make it as this is a really good route.

Working unfortunately

In the lyrics of that unforgetable song

" I hate you so much right now, I hate you so much right now"

The first ride of the year by your good self and i’m friggin workin and will be for the next 4 weekends including this one GGGRRRRR.

First available ride for me will be the 15th September if your thinking of doing any more. :Whistling:

Sorry about that, Stu. Been waiting for a break in the weather for months. Here’s hoping that Autumn this year will be better than the Summer.

Joby are u going?

 Well even after my bike being on charge all night it wont start. It’s making all kinds of sparky noises but they don’t sound too healthy and I can’t get to any of the others as Mark has the keys.

Have a good day, I’m sweating already but that’s probably cos I’m angry.

Heading off now. See you down there.

too hot for a long bike ride in leather etc - shorts tshirts and flipflops today (not on the bike :w00t:)

buy italian bikes, you will thing nothing of it when they don’t start,
