After watching the dispatches program on C4 last night about energy companies V and I decide to look through our bills and make sure we weren’t paying more than we needed.
Called EDF this morning to give them our gas meter reading and it turned out that they had us down as having a metric meter 5 white digits and 2 red but we still have an imperial one 4 white digits and 2 red.
So since our last reading in 2007, which they got wrong, they have been charging us by the cubic meter usage not cubic feet and it’s resulted in us getting a rebate from them for £488.39.
Nice one luvvie…we love edf in our house…took us at least 5 months when we first moved in for them to sort out any bills and a payment card, when i finally got the card went and paid 250 on it to cover any owing monies and low and behold we recieved a bill for Gas and Electric for 160 that left 90 for the next bil…but hang on…it took them another year to send me another bill saying i owed them 30 …seems something strange is going on with our account…we have tried calling them and all you get is half hour of music lol…oh well their mess up not ours.
We were with Southern Electric when we were in the flat, but when we moved to the house we decided to try Eon out. There was a communication breakdown between the two of them and SE have been trying to bill us for one of the services…think it was gas. Anyway, they over charged us and were demanding about £450 for 4 months worth. Eon have been great, always get straight through to them and they’ve been telling us to ignore the threatening letters as SE are at fault and Eon were prepared to back us up. SE requested we pay the full amount or they’d take us to court. I’m pretty stubborn and never get worried when someone threatens things like this and so told em to go ahead and make my day. Told em they were wrong for trying to charge us about 12-18months worth of fuel in 4 months and said the authorities would be interested to know this and the fact they had repeatidly ignored my info with regards to final readings.
Anyway, eventually got a final bill for them so paid that and now have a small bill of joint gas and electric to pay with Eon who aren’t requesting it to be paid in one go as the direct debits were set up quite high at the start to counter act all this.
Trouble is, we need gas and electric to function in life and these companies know they can charge what they want.
with british gas, moved into our flat and despite calling them once a month for over a year they still hadn’t billed me or even accepted they were supposed to be billing me.
Eventually got it all sorted, they gave me a huge credit on my account for the trouble, which was a percentage of the amount they felt I’d owe them. When they read the meter and I received the first bill I was in credit with them 14 months of gas free! because of their stupidity
with Thames water, thought the water charges were high and one day went out to lift the manhole cover where the meter resides. Got the missus to run a tap and realised they had the wrong meter attached to my gaff. It took a few calls to get an engineer out but when they did confirmed what I’d told them already. So I’d over paid, didn’t bother asking for a rebate. I received a letter about a month ago, which said they’d come and read the meter and they estimate that in one years time I’ll be in credit with them by £12.96.
