I just got my first big bike,a Suzuki bandit 600 2004 model.
I’m on the new A2 license so it has to be restricted to 47hp.
I’m a bit confused on:
• how much it should cost?
• what exactly they are doing to the engine? (what part are they using)
• Does it damage the engine?
• Is it easy to remove to get back the original engine performance?
I’ve been calling around various garages and on average they all say to fit it should cost between £250-£300 including the restriction kit, which they say costs £170.
MCN also has an article stating that there has been new riders getting ripped off, because of companies saying they need special certificates etc.
Anyway if someone could please just clarify what needs to be done and the best way/place to get it done, it would be much appreciated as I just want to get on the bike and ride it ASAP!
I think the 2004 Bandit 600is one of the last carb’d models.
In that case, the quoted cost from the garage is for a Suzuki OEM carb restriction kit. (Cheaper than the CDI restriction on the FI models!)
eBay ones should work just fine but you cant be assured of quality.
I’d look for a second-hand OEM set and get a certificate printed.
The certificates come blank and will be filled in by the fitter.
By supplying the part yourself, you’ll save quite a bit.
Just been thinking about this and you are right
Pulling the leads off would not work
What about adjusting the carbs so it only opens half way
Again just to be safe you will have to put it on a dyno

You are right again
Easy then just take one of the carbs off
One in the middle so it still looks right
Keep the movement and keep the plug leads on
It’s a win win situation

Top tips pinhead
also have 10psi in tyres will slow it down or you can make the chain loose so on full throttle the chain will jump over a few teeth, oh also adjust rear brake so its on slightly all the time.
That’s the spirit
I did not think of doing that
Do you think adjusting the back brake to start with
And then just pick one of the list till you get the desired results
Thanks I’m going to print this off a hang it in the garage

Hope I’m not to late
Don’t put the oil on the brakes
I gave it a go all went well it was a lot quicker on take off
And I did seem to get me where I was going faster
But I have to say after I went around the block for the 10th time trying to stop and burn the oil off the disks
I looked like one of the red arrows
I gave up and went home
Lucky for me I ran out of petrol the screams from the cage drivers started to upset me
Mostly at traffic lights

the restriction business is all pretty complicated… not the kit fitting, thats a piece of piss. the problem is, the quoted power (47bhp) no one says if its at the wheel or at the crankshaft, if it is measured at the wheel, then there is no guidance on what correction factor to use (SAE/DIN) etc. Also the original bike cant have made more than 94 BHP (not a problem with the bandit) but the bike also has to conform to a power to weight ratio too. so you couldnt have say a really highly tuned 125 2 stroke as it wouldnt be heavy enough so even if it made less than 47bhp, it would have a higher power to weight than you are allowed… its all a load of wank.
