As you might know I has started a new job the past three months and that was the main reason that I went quiet! Job was hectic and was working insane hours (mainly because was assisted and/or was given incomplete instructions)
Unfortunately during the three months of my probation I can to learn that:
The job was misrepresented, (i def was not doing what I was told id be doing in the interview or jobspec).
I got no support or help from my manager and was told im stupid when I didn’t take account something that someone new in a job would have no idea about!
My manager is crazy, possibly bi-polar! and got shouted at daily, and given evil eyes - then smiles!!
Not sure how I didnt smack her !!
So I handed im my notice on Friday and have two weeks to get a new job.
Thankfully I had started looking two weeks ago and have some interviews lined up.
At my resignation meeting I told my manager that I was willing to give her a longer notice period and help as much as I could to handover my work.
I asked for her permission to come in late or leave early some days (making up the time) but was told that I was probably NOT allowed to do so!! ??
I will ask again but if she doesnt allow it I;ll do it anyway… not like she can do much more harm… (or fire me! )
anyway… wish me luck and see you soon (now that I have escaped!)
Believe it or not, you can be fired during your notice period. That could have an influence on a decent reference.
Whilst on notince you are expected to work your contracted hours. In reality, I am sure that it does not happen often, but if you **** off the employer, they can use the option.
They can’t give you a bad reference, you’re right. But they can refuse to give you a reference at all. If they do decide to give you a reference, you have a right to ask the recipient if you can read it (you’re protected to an extent by the data protection act) but the damage may already have been done in terms of your potential new employer.
It can sometimes be best to be up front about things when you go an interview. If you get past the first round and are offered a job subject to refs and checks, you might want to give the new employer a brief run down of the facts of your present situation. Things do sometimes end acrimoniously, it’s not an ideal world
You are only doing your hours, no over time, why would they xpect you giving them 1 hour extra every day? I would say stick to your hours, you could mention the contract hours to your manager. Tell her you will be in at work at 9:30 and be leaving at 5:30 and that’s it as this is the contract you have signed.
