Replacement Tyre

Hi

I’m currently running Metzeler Sportec M1’s (front & rear) on my CBR600F-Y. Discovered a slow puncture in the rear tyre this morning so need to replace it. The Mezeler Sportec M1 is no longer available, so my question is, would a Metzeler ME Z4 be compatible with a Metzeler Sportec ME1 front tyre?

why not just plug it?

I wouldn’t trust it. Tyre’s half worn anyway. I would rather replace it.

plug it. get your moneys worth. plugs are rated as well as the tyre if properly fitted. get a decent tyre fitter to do it for you.

If you get it properly plugged at somewhere that knows what they are doing (i.e. Essential Rubber), you’ll be fine to do anything on that tyre… Hell folks even do trackdays with plugs in

I had 3 plugs in my tyre and it took me to the IoM and back… and mine was waaaay past half worn before I left - it was a PR3 mind you

OP, it’s your money.

All of us would recommend a plug but at the end of the day, if you want to replace it, go for it.

In terms of tyres, I’d say you want a matching set of tyres so maybe look for a part worn.
Once this set wears out, either stick some PR3s on there (good in the wet and dry) or alternatively, I’ve heard that corsa’s are pretty good.

Get it plugged

I punctured an Avon with less than 1,000 miles on it, got it plugged and run it for another 9,000 miles before replacing
