Renthal Grips.

It may be me. But ive just bought some Renthal grips and im having issues. The throttle grip dont fit! When i say that, i mean, its fouling on the Bar end causing a delay in the throttle returning closed. Bit of a problem when you wanna slow down although i now have the added benefit of cruise control! hehe

On closer inspection i notice that the original grip has a curve to allow the plastic sleeve to fit properly. The new Renthal hasnt which moves the Renthal slightly further down the grip thus resulting is said bar end problem.

Im hoping Jay or someone knows what im on about as i noticed his 750 had renthals on.

Maybe i bought the wrong ones??

yellogixer600, this is a common problem, the Renthal grips aren’t made for the K4 throttle bodies. I have a solution for you though. What you need to do, is put the standard grip back on, then at the point in the length of it where your renthal would go up to, use a sharp knife (i.e. stanley knife), to cut round the grip and detatch the length off the body. You will be left with the flange section of the stock grip on the throttle tube lip, you can then cut the same amount off the renthal, and slide it on, mating the stock grip bit and the Renthal part together.

When they’re mated, you won’t see them, assuming you went for one of the darker compounds. I find the soft compounds too soft personally, they get dirty easy and can tear up your gloves. I find the hard compound best, they also look the part.

In the picture above, I haven’t quite got the stock grip part on properly and it’s at an angle, this happened during a booboo when working on the bike, but rest-assured, it does look okay when you get it on perfectly. These are the medium-compound grips, I later on changed them for the hard compound. I also found that if you use the lock-wire grove in the stock and Renthal grips as a cutting guide, it’s spot-on.

AHHHHH HAAAAA! Genius.

Now all i need is to have not bought the softest, lightest grey they had…

Well done mate. Ill have a crack l8ter

Richard.

They’re cheap enough to get replacements, eh. Sell the others to a friend Stock grips can be got easy enough as well on eBay, as they’re the same grips as used on every other friggin Suzuki.
