Removing unwanted paint from motorcycle fairing...

I hit the A13 this morning and out of nowhere was a nice big wet patch of white paint, possibly latex based but I’m not sure. Anyway, I went straight though it and now I have speckles of white paint all over my black fairing and the tyres are covered in it.

What is the best way to remove the unwanted paint from my painted fairings without damaging then? I found some articles on cars and they recommended a clay. Will this work on motorcycle plastics?

Thanks

Yep, get a clay bar, I think you can get them from Halfords. You’ll need a lubricant. I find some car shampoo and a little water works. Gets rid of tar spots. If that fails, some panel wipe may do it.

I would go for some mr sheen first with a bug remover sponge … its the cheap option … then panel wipe … then clay .

There are clay kits at Halfords from Autoglym and McGuires that have everything you need in the box. I’ve not used it to remove paint but it does an amazing job at removing surface contaminants and the finish afterwards is pretty good.

I used contact cleaner to remove some radiator paint from my rear light which worked quite well. Hazard of having the bike in the front hall.

would tar remover not work for that?

I regularly use a clay bar to get rid of tree sap which is a right bu$$er where I live, especially in Spring/early summer. As above give panel wipe a go, if you can get it cheaply easily.

Not too sure about tar remover, I’ve never used it. Usually just wash it and clay bar.

Thanks for the replies.

I’m going to go with one of the clay bar kits as it needs a good clean anyway. I’ll let you know the outcome!
