Removing Stickers

hey all

i’m been trying to remove teh factory stickers off my SV, the orange and white ones!! got one off but the one on top of the tank is beinga a right pain, looks a mess now!:w00t: been suing the hairdryer trick, but it not working! so ho wlong do i have to heat it for?

Just hold it on there long enough to make the glue go sticky. Use some WD40 to clean the area afterwards. Comes up a treat!

Crikey MD, I thought that I’d have got a mention from you!

Or failing that, do what I did…

You will need:

A kettle
Water
A soft plastic spreader thing (like what you get with Araldite)
Parrafin or WD40
A rag

Boil the kettle, leave it for a couple of minutes, then pour a little water on the tank and use the plastic thing to gently push the sticker up and off while it’s soft. Keep pouring water on a little at a time and taking more sticker off as you go. It took me about 10 minutes.

To get the sticky residue off, use a little parrafin or WD40 on a rag. Then rinse the area with cold water.

Bish, bash - and, indeed, bosh.

If you’re struggling to get the residue off with WD40, use petrol - makes a much quicker job of it.Of course, make sure that the tank hasn’t been resprayed by a chancer with some poster paint first - otherwise it could all end in tears

you can buy this stuff called “Sticky Stuff Remover” which has always worked for me. I used it on those stickers and “shiny’s” that everyone had at school that id put on my bedroom door but may work for you

I tried to do mine last week and made a right pigs ear of it, I got so fed up I thought f*ck it and walked away. I was prepared to ride the bike like it - a mess!

But my nice hubby took pity on me cos it was my first day of Swine Flu and I was poorly, so he went out and did it for me

Wana borrow him ratty?

I done all mine on my 12…yes the tank is a pain to do but kept the hairdyer on it for about 10 secs then petrol to cleans any stickiness

well trhat swhat i’ve done:D

yah! send him over, with the superduke, i go for a ride while he sorts my bike out:w00t::smiley:

Light fluid has always worked for me, takes a few goes, but gets rid of the gue!

hair drier, gt85 and an old credit card as a scraper.

easy peasy

put a different sticker over it … no worries then !
