Scotland sounds wonderful but it’s very cold in February, are you thinking of going by bike mate?

Another idea might be a bit closer to home. How about a swanky London hotel, a shopping spree, a nice dinner and a show? Always a winner;)

Sorry for stealing your thread for a sec there Kempo :w00t:

Hi Kempo,

I have loads of ideas as I’m an old romantic. I’ll PM you a few suggestions as I don’t want anyone stealing my thunder or ruining any of my surprises…

That’s a good boy  Nice to see manners are still free and available here

Just don’t mention your new recipes Shauna;)

huh?

We went up to Scotland on the sleeper train at Xmas. It’s quite romantic (even if you the only option is bunk beds, and the sleeper compartments are about 2ft square). But it’s great to leave Euston at 9pm on a Friday, and wake up in the Highlands the next morning, with snow on the hilltops.

If you’re lucky, you can get really cheap (from £19 single) sleeper tickets (google Caledonian Sleeper, or go to the First ScotRail site), but I bet the cheap deals are all sold out for Valentines. You could, of course, arrange a trip for a couple of weekends after Valentines, with greater chance of a cheap deal, and give her the tickets on V Day as her present.

Even going on a normal train, it takes around 5 hrs London-Edinburgh, and there’s more chance of a cheap deal.

[Just reread this, and it seems I’m obsessed with the word “cheap”.]

How are you going to travel?
What time will you be able to leave on Friday?
I can recommend places in Scotland but might be hard to get to them eg last train isn’t that late on a Friday.
Going up by bike would be crap as it will be cold and not fun anymore by Preston!
PM me in case I forget to check this thread and dont reply :doze:

oh yeah, as for travelling, i think if we’re going to sctland then we’ll fly but the train sounds nice. cramped but nice

Kempo, if I sold holidays I’d say “yeah, good idea”. But as I sell diamonds to the trade I’d naturally say stuff the weekend away and buy some to keep…from me!:w00t:

The train is really cool. And if (like me) it’s an hour or so to get to H’row, then the wait before check in, then the flight, then the journey from the airport at the other end, then 5 hrs on the train isn’t much different to the time it takes to fly.

Plus, I’d much much much prefer tipping up at Euston with a bottle of champagne, some snacks, a game, some magazines, etc, and let the train take the strain, rather than the blood-pressure-raising experience of being processed through an airport like a human poo.
