Recommend a portable power bank

I need a portable power bank to charge up my phone when I’m in the sticks. I’ve had 2 already which had to be returned because they were useless. Can anyone recommend one that they know works?

Oh oh, cactus has a really nice one. Ask him! They’re cheap too and mega powerful. With braided cables !

The one I would recommend only fits an iPhone 5s
I’m still waiting on a new one for my 6s

I’ve got Anker Astro E5 15000mAh. Got it couple years ago and it still works fine, but I don’t use it too often. Model has been replaced with this one Astro E5 16000mAh

Also got a couple of small ones, but as they use only single 18650 cell, they are not that great. Which ones you had?

I use Floureon which are good. AndroidAndy does a few reviews on that sort of stuff too https://www.youtube.com/user/AndroidAndyUK/playlists

but as Vince says, you need GOOD cables. there is a marked difference in the rate of charging between cheap and expensive cables.

Can’t go wrong with Anker. Sorry can’t find the model no. of mine think it’s a 6300mAh. it’s about half the size of a box of fags and will charge my Samsung S6 one and a half time (though mines optimised so lasts for sometime unless I’m watching porn videos). Powers the Drift HD all day.

What are you doing in the sticks then?

I’ve got the replacement one, works as advertised. If you go larger I think the 20,000 can charge a Macbook Air.

+1 Got my because Andy recommended it… infact got 2 now as the kids kept nicking mine !

LOL !

Love that guys videos

Thanks all. I had one of the smaller Anker ones (Anker PowerCore+ mini) that was pants and then I bought a Belkin One from Sainsbury’s (Belkin Boost Battery Pack) that was equally pants. Was wondering if there is a tipping point / price point after which they actually work. I’ll look into the options above.

Interesting that the cable make a big difference.

You need to make sure it’s powerful enough to charge your phone. Some of the smaller ones will only part charge some phones.

My Anker is very good. I know of two others who have Anker ones (both different models to each other) and we all have good experiences with them.

Mine is a A1209 - it IS big but lasts absolutely forever. Days on end. It’s built like a tank too, doesn’t fall apart like the cheap one I got on eBay from China  a few years ago. I think it cost £25 on Amazon a few months ago when I bought it back in the summer. Well worth it.

Anker Astro 6400 is great, does 4 charges of an iphone 5s

There are so many options.  First off, what phone do you have?  If your phone supports Quick Charge 2.0 I feel it’s really worth getting a power bank that supports it, charging is crazy fast then.

Also, how many days are you wanting to last?

Anker, mine will do at least 5 full phone charges (the 201000 mAh)

I’ve got a Noika Lumia 820. I don’t think it supports fast charge. I’ve a cheap android tablet I use when travelling too. I just want something that is reliable for travelling with so I wont run out of juice on a train or plane. Weight and size are not really an issue so long as it is reliable.
